Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

Before getting into the bachelor’s degree in Education at University of Nevada,

Las Vegas, you have to pass the Reading, Writing, and Math Praxis Core Exams. For

Elementary Education, the passing score for the Reading Praxis Core Exam is a score of

156. To qualify for the Writing Praxis Core Exam in Nevada, you must score at least 162.

For the Math Praxis Core Exam, the qualifying score is 150 for educators.

Exam Preparation

Before taking the Reading, Writing, and Math Praxis Core Practice tests, I did not

prepare as much as I needed to. I created a Khan Academy account and was working

through some of the Praxis Core Study tools they provided. I used online sources to see

what kind of questions they would ask on each exam. I had studied for these tests a

couple months ago and thought I would be okay. I would definitely recommend that I

review more study tools and review the material on the exams.

Exam Results

In Reading, I scored in the 77% range, which means that I am borderline to

passing the Reading section when I take the official Praxis Core Exam. I scored in the

73% range in the Writing section, which means I am borderline to passing the Writing

section as well. For Math, I score in the 49% range, which means I need significant

improvement in this subject before taking the Math section.

Future Exam Preparation

I have not taken the Praxis Core exam yet. Before taking the exams, I will make

sure to use multiple different resources and tools to study. I have some study books that I

have not looked at yet, that I plan on starting to look through now. I will also use online

sources including Ed Ready and Khan Academy. If I have a chance to work with a tutor,

I will take advantage of that. I like to have someone there to help me better understand

the material if I do not understand it, rather than trying to teach myself. I will need many

hours of studying to prepare for the Writing Reading, and Math Praxis Core Exams.
