A library management system (LMS) handles all major library business processes from reader handling to
lending materials.
It should be implementable for medium to large sized libraries. There is reasonable budget and time assigned for
the system. In case of changes in library set-up or structure, each library has rights to modify LMS services,
according to their new and improved library structure or services. LMS comprises of online portal and
respective database. In order to avail LMS services, a library user must register with the LMS and the
information is stored in LMS database. A confirmation of new user registration must be sent to user and admin
via SMS service.
Library has rights to modify LMS services, and such service modification notifications must be sent to all the
users and administrative members of LMS via SMS service. The LMS provides its multiple users with the ease
of accessing its contents from remote locations using internet. The LMS must also be able to provide user
services like issuing, borrowing and reservation of not only books, but other materials like journals, eBooks,
manuals CD/DVDs as well confirmation of provided service through SMS. The user is restricted to borrow not
more than one book of same subject at a time. The user information and history of each user's services availed
are stored on library database that is be accessible to librarian. The librarian would have to be an active
employee of the library, so that he can manage data of all the users accordingly.
