DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY AND TOURISM INDUSTRY ACCORDING TO

ITS 2 CORE SECTORS:

Hospitality and Tourism both shared in the Attraction and Leisure & Recreation. It means to
say Attraction could fall under Hospitality . Leisure could fall under hospitality or Tourism Industry.
The umbrella of hospitality:

Lodging

Food Services

Travel

We can conclude that Tourism or travel is under the umbrella of Hospitality. We can interpret
this picture that tourism will transport or provide the activities of the guests. The hospitality will provide
the lodging and the food beverages to the guests.
The tourism component and tourism management.

OPERATING SECTOR OF TOURISM – these are the supporting sectors of the tourism. Without this
sector the tourism industry will not run or will not operate

9 OPERATING SECTORS OF TOURISM – they play vital role in tourism sector

ATTRACTION - this could be natural , cultural or man-made attraction

NATURAL – these are built-in environments. Examples: underground river, Palawan, boracay

CULTURAL – could also be natural or man-made. Cultural attractions could be festivals,

practices, traditions.

MAN-MADE - Made by human. Example: Banawe Rice Terraces, theme parks, enchanted
kingdom

ADVENTURE & OUTDOOR RECREATION - one of the emerging sector now in tourism because
ofthe advent of discretionary time or more time and less work. Nagkakaroon ng increase in
discretionary time. Before you work 5 days a week. But because of increase of discretionary time,
you congest the work schedule to 3 to 4 days. Meaning, Monday to Thursday ka lang magwowork.
Then you have 3 days na walang work. That is your discretionary time. So what you will do is to
spend your free days to adventure and outdoor recreation

Examples of adventure & outdoor recreation: Normally ends in “ing”. Mountaineering, hiking,
climbing, canoeing, splanking or caving.

Out of these, these are considered the sectoror industry of tourism. Mountaineering and
hiking are just component of resort or integral component sya ng mga hotels. Nagiging industry sya.
Example yung isang hotel nag-oofer sya ng outdoor recreation like mountaineering, canoeing,
nagiging sector na din sya ngayon. Isa ito sa booming or growing sector of tourism

Recreation – “re” – you recreate something new out of your usual activity

ACCOMMODATION – or lodging services

In the Philippines, it is not required to be accredited with the department of tourism. But
they are requ ired to be a member of hotel association like Hotel Association of the
Phlippines.

If you are accredited of t of tourism, we are using the star rating. In Europe, they are
using the diamond rating. Here in the phlippines, our highest is 5 star. Some of our 5 star hotels are
manila hotel, shangrila hotel, man
