UNITED NATION’S MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The 8 Millennium Development Goals are developed and planned by a certain

organization during United Nations conferences and summits. The participants are

the world leaders in some countries in the world. They have agreed that the MDG

should be achieved through the targeted year. The MDG’s are as follows: to

eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; to achieve universal primary education; to

promote gender equality and empower women; to reduce child mortality; to improve

maternal health; to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; to ensure

environmental sustainability; and to develop a global partnership for development.

To sum it up, its ultimate goal is to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people.

Help those countries which have many issues from the above stated MDG’s. The

MDGs are inter-dependent; all the MDG influence health, and health influences all

the MDGs. For example, better health enables children to learn and adults to earn.

Gender equality is essential to the achievement of better health. Reducing poverty,

hunger and environmental degradation positively influences, but also depends on,

better health. The moment a person achieves wellness and good health he/she can
do other things such that may improve his life, inspires others, develop positive

environment and have better world.

17 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Filipinos aspire for work-life balance, a comfortable, secure and peaceful life. We

need to transform our world by ensuring sustainable development and leaving no

one behind in order to live the life we want. Through the pledge to Leave No One

Behind, countries have committed to fast-track progress for those furthest behind

first. That is why the SDGs are designed to bring the world to several life-changing

‘zeros’, including zero poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and

girls. Everyone is needed to reach these ambitious targets. The creativity, knowhow,

technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the

SDGs in every context.

Sustainability and inclusivity are both goals and principles that guide our

development strategies. Engaging stakeholders is necessary for an initiative to gain

traction and be owned by a broad section of society who is driven to make it work

and succeed. Achieving the SDGs requires the partnership of governments, private

sector, civil society and citizens alike to make sure we leave a better planet for future

generation.

The 17 SDGs are integrated, meaning they recognize that action in one area will

affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and

environmental sustainability. According to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the

seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are our shared vision of

humanity and a social contract between the world’s leaders and the people. Turning

this vision into reality is primarily the responsibility of countries, but it will also require

new partnerships and international solidarity. Everyone has a stake and everyone
has a contribution to make; envision having a healthier world than what they have

experienced nowadays where problems and issues are arise from those SDG’s.
