Discussion

The Centrifugal Pump Efficiency Characteristics experiment was performed with three
separate 50 percent, 75 percent and 100 percent Pump Speed Control Pumps. The experiment
was performed to observe the efficiency of the pump characteristic, i.e. the pressure change, the
power requirement, the pump speed influence and the flow rate influence based on the three-
speed regulation. Centrifugal pump is a common turbo engine device used to raise the pressure
or induce flow in the control volume. The centrifugal pump is a radial flux. As the impeller
pump rotates, it produces a low inlet pressure that allows the cycle of suction of the fluid. Fluid
is radially driven down the impeller to the casing, and the fluid is discharged through the
nozzle.
Three experiments were carried out to assess the efficiency of the pump at different
speeds. In the first study, pump at a control rate of 50 percent, with rotational speed
N=1439rpm. The volume flow rate decreases as the torque increases. Gradually, the valve is
opened on the basis of the discharged pressure, which was set as the water head gradually
decreased. The output of the pump was decreased when the valve was completely extended. For
the second test, with a rotational speed of N=2178 rpm. The volume flow rate decreases as the
torque increases. Gradually, the valve is opened on the basis of the discharged pressure, which
was set as the water head gradually decreased. The output of the pump was decreased when the
valve was completely extended. For the last check, pump at 100 percent with pump rotational
speed N=2945 rpm. The volume flow rate decreases as the torque increases. The output was
decreased when the valve was completely opened.

From the data collected, we can say that all tests with specific pump speed controls of
1439rpm, 2173rpm and 2945rpm are almost the same. The flow rate for all speeds increased as
the torque increased. The valve is opened slowly on the basis of the pressure discharged, which
has been determined to reduce the value of the water head. Efficiency at all rotational speeds,
we can see that the water valve must gradually open before it is fully opened.
When the experiment was performed, some precautions were taken to avoid any error in
our results. The equipment has already been tested to ensure that the system is in good shape
before the experiment is carried out. Reading at the pump suction and transmission gauges must
be carefully read to prevent any parallax mistake. The eyes must be opposite to the size of the
water level in order to have an accurate meaning.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, the performance characteristics of the centrifugal pump with 3 different

rotational speeds, such as pressure change, power requirement, pump speed influence and flow
rate effect, have been extracted from the measurement and can also achieve the best pump
efficiency (BEP). The efficiency of the pump depends on the size of the unit and the power it
manages. The larger the machine is, the higher the performance. As the pump speed increases,
the torque (T) decreases, followed by the brake horse power (bhp) and the volume flow rate
(Q). As the pump speed increases, the pump head value will also increase. The objective of the
experiment has been achieved.
