The Global Liberty Alliance was contacted by Ms. Vida Mehrania. the wife of Dr.
Ahmadreza Djalali, a Swedish national unlawfully detained and held hostage in Iran since
April 26,2016. His family and lawyer were advised last month that orders have been given
to carry out a sentence of death no later than December 1, 2020 at the Raja'i Shahr prison in
Karaj. Dr. Djalali had been in solitary confinement in section 209 of Evin prison and has
presumably been transferred to Raja'i Shahr prison.

The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention—as have other

stakeholders including foreign governments and human rights organizations - urged Iran
in a 2017 decision to respect Dr. Djalali's fundamental rights.' Last month UN experts called
on Iran to halt Dr. Djalali's execution asking "the Iranian authorities to take immediate
action to reverse this decision before it is too late."^

We are all children of God. On behalf of Ms. Mehrania, and the rest of Dr. Djalali's
family, we respectfully ask that this letter be given to the Holy Father, Pope Francis, and the
appropriate persons in the Holy See who could intercede with the Iranians and urge them
to spare Dr. Djalali's life on a clemency basis.
