LARGER PROJECT GOALS

1. To create a Comprehensive Master Plan for the


natural and urban beachfront for
Vishakhapatnam for the entire stretch of 30 Km.

2. Address suitability of various areas along the


beachfront, including retention of natural
landform and biodiversity.

3. Use of sustainable techniques to restore existing


parks and remediating public areas while
restoring and enhancing natural shore
biodiversity and ecology.

4. Create methodology for intervention and


construction for the overall beachfront zone
that is effective in high storm events, protects
and enhances the natural land forms,

livelihoods like that of fishers.

• Length: 3km
• An urban beachfront with dense population have cycle tracks running alongside the main beach road. The cycle
tracks are separated from the pedestrian promenade through linear dense plantation and have several pause points
and kiosk zone designed parallel to it.

• Length: 0.7 km
• Ecologically rich zone with variety of coastal plantation and sand dunes have a well-integrated curvilinear cycle tracks
and pedestrian boardwalks. In order to preserve the existing natural condition, the tracks are elevated and laid on stilts.
At few places the parallel running boardwalk bifurcates from the cycle track and are laid around the sand dunes for
easy access to the beach from the main road.

• Tenneti park situated on the foothills of Kailasagiri mountain has cycle track running
along the edge at 20m (approx.) above the sea level. The cycle track designed

as pause points, seating, adequate lighting etc. at regular interval.
