Professor Thames Rodriguez 1

ENC 1102

Conference Memo 1
Before the conference, I wanted to focus on a much narrower subject than I should have.
I wanted to focus on the mental health of veterinarians, but during the conference Professor
Thames made a valid point about the ethical issue with my topic. It would be too personal to find
genres other than online data that would not encroach on the personal lives of people. The
conference with Professor Thames clarified this further for me. After the conference, I felt like I
was on track with my writing process. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to write on, and I have
already brainstormed some ideas that I could research. I already have in mind which genres I
want to research, and Professor Thames helped me by validating my ideas. The most important
takeaway from my conference was that I need to find a subject within the research of
veterinarian medicine. I decided I should go with the ethics of animal testing in the view of the
veterinarian field. I will be able to make an argument as a pursuing pre-vet student and I can also
research scholarly articles on how veterinarians feel when it comes to animal testing since vets
do have to use drugs that are usually tested on animals first. As a professor, professor Thames
could probably give some tips about how to narrow our topics a bit more, but not so much that
that major assignment turns into a science research project.
