ON-THE-JOB TRAINING PROGRAM

A. Introduction
律 宾 郊 亚 鄢 南 星 學 校
Nan Sing School of Cauayan City, Incorporated
Dalupang St., Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines 3305

Work immersion refers to the part of the senior high school (SHS) consisting of 80
hours of hand on experience of work simulation which the grades 11 and 12 students will
undergo to expose them to the actual work place setting and to enrich the competencies
provided by the school under the supervision of the school head and the designed
personnel of the partner

It is the responsibility of supervisors and managers to utilize available resources to

train, qualify, and develop its trainees but it can be difficult to find the right person to
conduct it. The disadvantage of On-the Job Training among that some students may
encounter, they cannot choose the proper facility that will innovate their learning for their
upcoming course because it’s up to the school on where will they be assigned to.

B. Importance of Work Immersion

The significance of Work Immersion is it will enable students to gain proficiency

skills for the actual work, relevant knowledge that will innovate your learnings about
your future profession, and values that will help them to make important decisions at
work. On-the-Job Training is very important to teach students regarding their chosen
career but also to manifest the reality about working. On-the-Job Training will be you
training ground. If the students still have no idea what is meant to be a worker, On-the-
Job Training will give them at least 10% of career realties. It will also prepare the
learners to make decisions on their future careers.

C. Objectives of Work Immersion

At the end of the training the interns will be able to:

 Provide the trainee with aptitude, competence, independence, and

awareness in the real workplace
律 宾 郊 亚 鄢 南 星 學 校
Nan Sing School of Cauayan City, Incorporated
Dalupang St., Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines 3305

 Demonstrate student’s strong work ethic and adaptability

 Supplement the student’s requirements for the K-12 Curriculum and in
return will help them gather meaningful experiences that will be of great
help in the near future

D. Time and Place of the Work Immersion

Work Immersion was at National Irrigation Administration, Maharlika Road, Minante

II, Cauayan City, Isabela. I am assigned in the Intellectual Development Section and it
started in the 13th of January 2020 and ended in the 7th of February. Their office hour is

CHAPTER II

SCHOOL PROFILE

A. History of Nan Sing School

Nan Sing School of Cauayan City Inc. has its own story which makes its own
identity and a priceless history. And it all began with the person who named "Nicolas
Wei". During the Japanese Era in the year 1939, there was a Chinese national who named
Nicolas Wei. During this time, only American schools exist in our country so Nicolas
decided to establish a school for Chinese and Filipino. As time passed by, Nicolas got
married to a woman from Yangtze, China who named Wong Sing Together, they
managed to launch Nan Sing School on the year 1940. That time, there were only few
pupils so the parents decided to share their dwelling places for classrooms and instruction
purposes. Wong Sing continued to manage the school until 1942.The school was named
Nan Sing because the Chinese community decided to vive a name related to Nicolas Wei

and his wife Wong Sing, and wluch marts Chinese Filipino partnership before. School
profit has not been the instruction goal of the school, indeed, it's for the less fortunate
people.
The prosperous journey of the school had stopped when the World War II
happened and the school was forced to close down. After the war. the very persevere
Chinese community organized a school board and planned to put up new school building.
And in the rear of 1948. finally, the Chinese community was successful to build a two
storey wooden structure. The board secured necessary papers and corresponding permit
to operate and was duly recognized by the department of education
But challenges are always along the way. Unfortunately. June 1951 came, the
school building was razed down into ashes. The story of the school never stop there, for
the board of Trustees decided to rent houses to resume the classes. Truly, the school has
its own ups and downs. Because of what happened, a general assembly was conducted
wherein the board gathered to discuss about raising funds to situate a new school building
And at last, they were capable to put up a new two storey building which lasted for
almost hall a century.
The development of the school continued to be successful. In the year of 1996, it
decided to nurture its products from elementary level so the school began to establish its
secondary level. And in the year of 1998, the board thought of putting up a new concrete
building due to the demands of time. And in order to raise the necessary amount for the
construction of a four storey building, a reorganization of officer was done. Nan Sing
School of Cauayan City Inc. is the fruit of love, loyalty and dedication of the benevolent
members of Cauayan Filipino Chinese Chamber Commerce. For our school, it is a legacy
to preserve Chinese culture and heritage to be passed down to the next and youngest
generations.
Nan Sing School gives importance to the identity formation of a child and molds
them by putting an emphasis on discipline in every aspect of themselves. Love of God
and Mankind is recognized, respect for one another's life is emphasized. Education in
Nan Sing School is natural and civilized, it molds the child physically, emotionally,

COOPERATING AGENCY PROFILE

A. History, Vision and Mission

History

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is a government-owned and

controlled corporation primarily responsible for irrigation development and management.
It was created under Republic Act (RA) 3601 on 22 June 1963. Its charter was amended
by Presidential Decree (PD) 552 on 11 September 1974 and PD 1702 on 17 July 1980.
Both increased the capitalization and broadened the authority of the Agency.

NIA's forerunner was the Irrigation Division of the defunct Bureau of Public
Works. NIA was placed under the Office of the President (OP) upon its creation. It was
attached to the Department of Public Works, Transportation, and Communication under
PD No.1, dated 23 September 1972. The issuance also integrated all irrigation activities
under the Agency. The Administrative Code of 1987, dated 25 July 1987, attached NIA
to both the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and Department of
Agriculture (DA). But NIA remained attached to DPWH. It was transferred to OP
pursuant to Executive Order No. 22, dated 14 September 1992. Then, it was attached to
DA under Administrative Order No. 17, dated 14 October 1992.

Executive Order No. 165, Transferring the National Food Authority, National
Irrigation Administration, Philippine Coconut Authority, and Fertilizer and Pesticide
Authority to the Office of the President, 5 May 2014. Memorandum Order No. 70,
Providing for the functions of the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and
Agricultural Modernization, 5 May 2014.

Vision

By 2022, NIA is a professional and efficient irrigation agency contributing to the

inclusive growth of the country and in the improvement of the farmers’ quality of life.

Mission

To plan, construct, operate and maintain irrigation systems consistent with integrated
water resource management principles to improve agricultural productivity and increase
farmers’ income.

B. Location

The National Irrigation Administration in Region 2 is located along the Maharlika

Road, Minante I, Cauayan City in the province of Isabela. It can be reached by an 8 hour
ride from Manila and an hour flight to Cauayan Airport. Its operations is headed by a
Regional Manager to oversee all project implementation in the five juridical areas of
Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino comprising what is called the
Cagayan Valley Region.

C. Specialization and Services

Irrigation Delivery

Farming Status/Cropping Intensity (Dry Crop 2019) - As of April 2019

Technical Assistance to LGU and Other Parties

As a result of devolution, NIA extends technical assistance on communal

irrigation development to local government units (LGU). These LGUs include those with
financial resources to implement their communal projects, and those with technical
capabilities as well. The assistance to LGUs range from pre-construction to construction
to operation and maintenance activities. This is at different levels of feasibility studies,
civil works and operation, including institutional development. NIA staff also visit
project sites. Technology transfer is effected in the process. NIA also extends technical
assistance to other government and private parties which have concerns on irrigation

Dalupang St., Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines 3305

development and management. LGUs and other parties desiring to seek technical
assistance may contact NIA's regional and provincial irrigation offices nationwide.

Balikatan Sagip Patubig Program

The Balikatan Sagip Patubig Program (BSPP) was launched in 1999 to assist local
government units (LGU) to be financially and technically capable to implement
communal irrigation development, thus, effecting the spirit of devolution. It is jointly
undertaken by the Department of Agriculture (DA) thru NIA, LGUs, and Irrigators
Associations with the LGUs primarily responsible for the Program.

BSPP covers both the construction and rehabilitation of communal irrigation

systems. LGUs which have the technical and management capacities to undertake pre-
engineering and construction activities are left to do these. NIA provides technical
assistance and support as necessary. Otherwise, NIA undertakes these activities upon the
request of the LGUs.

LGUs wanting to avail of the BSPP assistance must comply with the guidelines
set by the Department of Agriculture. They may contact NIA's regional and provincial
irrigation offices, and the office of the Manager of the Systems Management Department
at the central office for more information.

THE NARRATIVE REPORT COMPILATION

A. Weekly Accomplishment Report

1st Week

During the first week of my immersion in the office of National Irrigation

Administration Regional Office also known as NIA, Ms. Dorothy De Leon and Mrs.
Amalia Ramos welcomed us, the 10 trainees who are upcoming engineering students
in the track of STEM from Nan Sing School of Cauayan City Inc. She oriented us
first the company's rules and their expectation among us. Ms. Sharon Bautista
assigned me at the Institutional Development Section. After my introduction to the
Community Relations Engineer Chief C and her subordinates, I started my work and
well-adjusted in my new environment through the help of Mrs. Josefina Goray. I
have been obeying orders from them which are sending and receiving important files
to different departments such as to the Administrative Section and the Cashier,
photocopying their needed paperwork, compiling files into a folder, and they also
taught me on how to encode important information for the regional manager. Due to
the absence of the chief and her staff of the section that I am assigned with, I am
asked by them yesterday to assist my other co-student in the Operation Section. Our
task is to label the form 3 and form 7 in each folder in order for the files to be well-
organized.

2nd Week
On our 2nd week as an intern, we have done a lot of reading and discussion. We
read the company profile several times and after that, we are interviewed by the
company manager. He is also the one who discussed the company’s background to
us and after that we read more about the company’s partners in trade. We picked up
some file for a project for an irrigation system in Solana, Cagayan. We did a lot of
律 宾 郊 亚 鄢 南 星 學 校
Nan Sing School of Cauayan City, Incorporated
Dalupang St., Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines 3305

printing and searching data and also helping our officers with photocopying
important files. We even experienced to serve our company manager coffee and
deliver him important files. Second week was basically fine, it is not a very busy
week but still, we have done our parts and learned a lot.

B. Problems Met During Training

The problem that I have encountered during my Work Immersion is the

inappropriateness of the facility that I am assigned to because the Intellectual
Development Section and the tasks that I am usually given is not related to my chosen
career which is Civil Engineering.

C. Observation

I observed during my Work Immersion at the National Irrigation Administration-

Region II in the Intellectual Development Section that all of their employees have a lot of
paper works. They are the ones who are responsible to compute all of the expenses of
NIA-Region II and who represent their company to seminars outside.

D. Insights Gained During Training

D.1 Skills and Knowledge Acquired

 I developed my critical thinking and problem solving skills because in a

rapidly changing world, employers need employees who can solve problems,
provide ideas and help improve the organization.
 I have become proficient in using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
律 宾 郊 亚 鄢 南 星 學 校
Nan Sing School of Cauayan City, Incorporated
Dalupang St., Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines 3305

 I was equipped with knowledge about using any kind of printer, scanner,
computer and photocopier because in the digital age, technology is
everywhere.
 My inquiry skills improved a lot. The ability to ask great questions, however,
is a great skill that is needed in our culture because rarely do we asses on how
well they can ask questions.
 I have learned to lead myself because this includes the ability to
independently plan, organize, create and execute rather than wait for someone
to do this for myself.
 I also liberate myself into adaptive thinking wherein I am able to adapt to new
things such as my work place quickly and efficiently.

D.2 Values Learned

On-the-Job Training taught me the value of punctuality that enables me to manage

my time productively. I was trained to have a good working relationship with my
superiors and it is a must to respect and follow their orders inside the workplace. And
lastly, I also learned to act as a professional because I must always focus on my work and
there is no room for unnecessary chitchat with my co-trainee during office hours. All the
values that I have learned shows that I am committed toward my work at the National
Irrigation Administration - Region II.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary

Work Immersion is a part of a K-12 curriculum that aims to develop the skills and
impart values among the students and to orient them about the work and their future
career. It is where the students learns how to do work through hands-on experience. It is a
training ground that enables the learners to see the reality. On-the Job Training has many
advantages, but it can also have a few disadvantages that some of students may
encounter.

The significance of On-the-Job Training is it will enable students to gain

proficiency skills for the actual work, relevant knowledge that will innovate your
learnings about your future profession, and values that will help them to make important
decisions at work. On-the-Job Training is very important to teach students regarding their
chosen careen but also to manifest the reality about working.

My On-the-Job Training was at National Irrigation Administration-Region II that

is located at Maharlika Road, Minante II, Cauayan City, Isabela and I was assigned in the
Intellectual Development Section. Through undergoing my On-the-Job Training and
while making this Narrative Report I have learned new skills such as I was equipped with
knowledge about using any kinds of computer, printer, scanner, and computer, developed
my critical thinking and problem solving skills, improve my inquiry skills, my adaptive
thinking specially in my new environment and to always lead myself in the right path. I
also reflected that I gained new values such as the importance of punctuality, developed
good working relationship with my superiors and improved my professionalism.

Conclusion
律 宾 郊 亚 鄢 南 星 學 校
Nan Sing School of Cauayan City, Incorporated
Dalupang St., Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines 3305

By undergoing my Work Immersion for 80 hours at the National Irrigation

Administration, I have acquired new set of skills and values that broaden my knowledge
and perspective about my chosen career in the future, but they lack the appropriateness
for the facility and tasks that is suitable for the my chosen course which is Civil
Engineering because they only entrust us much office works that supposedly the students
from strand Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) commonly deals with. The
new learnings from all of the tasks that I have accomplished are more on about office
works and the section that I am assigned to specialize social work.

Recommendation

I highly recommend to the upcoming student-trainees in the track of

Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) instead of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Management (STEM) at Nan Sing School Cauayan City Inc., who
should conduct work site training at the same company. The National Irrigation
Administration has better facilities conductive for learning due to lots of given paper
works that is more applicable to them. I suggest that the company of NIA should entrust
and broaden the student’s knowledge based on their chosen fields because they lack the
appropriateness for facilities and tasks that will help the students to innovate their
learning in their future career.
