Electric flux: The numbers of field lines passing through a
plane or surface is called electric flux.
Gauss Law
The total charge enclosed by a closed surface (Gaussian
surface) is 𝜖 0 times the electric flux linked with the closed
surface. Or

The net charge inside the closed surface is equal to 𝜖 0 times the
surface integral of the normal component of electrostatic field.
•5 In Fig. 23-33, a proton is a distance d/2 directly
above the center of a square of side d. What is the
magnitude of the electric flux through the square?
(Hint: Think of the square as one face of a cube
with edge d.)
•25 An infinite line of charge produces a
SSM

field of magnitude 4.5×10^4 N/C at distance

2.0 m. Find the linear charge density.
Electric potential: The amount of work done in bringing a
unit positive charge from a point in electric field is called
electric potential at that point.
𝐸 𝑊
V= or v= or w=vIt
𝑄 𝑄

Electric flux: The numbers of field lines passing through a

plane or surface is called electric flux.

Electric dipole
An electric dipole consists of two equal but opposite
charge separated by a small distance. The charges are +q
and –q and they are separated by a distance d.
