Action Plan

Student Teacher: Christopher Langlois Student ID: 260588203

Program: Secondary Placement: 3

Date:

Instructions: To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, Student Teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of each
placement with input from their Co-operating Teacher and/or Field Supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each placement’s evaluation, links each
placement to the next, establishes goals for improvement and forms an agenda for discussion between the Student Teacher, Co-operating
Teacher and Field Supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent placement. For B.Ed. Field Experience 1 only (excluding Physical Education
students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown ‘Thorough’ to ‘Advanced’ development in the following Professional Competencies developed during this placement:
Competency 6 To plan, organize and supervise a class in such a way as to promote students' learning and social development.
In this competency I developed a ton of new skills. I believe the skill that I had specifically in terms of classroom management was the ability to get the
students to give me their attention but I had not idea how to manage a classroom. As I went through the stage, I noticed how my cooperating teacher
reaffirmed the class rules when students moved away from following the class rules. I also learned a strategy to get students to follow the class rules
much more effectively when students are doing individual work. This involves modelling the behaviour that you expect of your students

Competency 4 To pilot teaching/learning situations that are appropriate to the students concerned and to the subject content with a view to developing
the competencies targeted in the programs of study.
In this field experience I have been able to design several lessons and activities. I have had experience directing a discussion. In addition, I had to
organize group work. When organizing this group work, I had to make sure that all the students were on task. I also managed a lecture format.
Therefore, I got to work on running several different types of activities.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this placement:
Competency 8 To integrate information and communications technologies (ict) in the preparation and delivery of teaching/learning activities and for
instructional management and professional development purposes.
I could have had a few more strides in this area. I did not work on this skill as much as I would have liked.

Competency 1: To act as a professional inheritor, critic and interpreter of knowledge or culture when teaching students.
In this competency I made many strides but there are several areas of improvement that I can make. Specifically it would be to ask questions of my
students that are engaging.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

In terms of improving competency 8 I would need to do some research on educational technologies. One of the technologies that I found interesting was
peer deck. This is an app that is meant to make slides more interactive. This would be something that could make my lectures more intriguing. In
addition there are some free courses available on the use ICT technology in the classroom which could also provide some insight into how to do it
effectively.

In terms of improving competency 1 there are several areas that I can work on. One area that I need to develop would be on developing better questions
to engage students during lecture. A way I could do this before the stage begins is by doing some research on socratic teaching. I know that socratic
teaching is very much built around asking good questions. Therefore learning more about how to use this strategy could be beneficial with dealing with
this weekness. Other strategies to clearly communicate knowledge to my students would be to develop good analogies. In my next field experience I
would have to have conversations with my CT ot inquire how to make material more engaging.

The Action Plan is to be discussed with your Field Supervisor and Co-operating Teacher at the start of the subsequent placement.
