Review on Related Literature How students perception about their subjects affect their learning ability. Perception can be
defined as a process of decoding or translating information gathered by the senses to generate and make coherent meaning
about the world. (www.bussinessdictionar-y.com, 2014) Though perception can be a way on how a person view a certain
thing. It affects a person beliefs and behavior in general. But also it can help someone to make use of the information
gathered by them just like seeing things or hearing something that which make sense of the letters. In a study of Tanja
Sargent and Jennifer Adams in 2012, where a situation in china has happened. It discussed about the perception of the
students, which made the Chinese government change their curriculum from subject-centered to student-centered scheme. It
had a great improvement, the study shows that the levels of stress of students were reduced but the students participation
increased. From the results gathered, it shows that it is a better way of learning since their perception to the old way of
learning was improved to the new one. The same way was implemented in the Philippines the K-12 Program. But the initial
implementation of K12 Program in the Philippines raised some concerns. In report written by John Mark Burilla (2012), he
mentioned some problems of the society in the implementation of K-12 such as the nation’s poverty, the readiness of the
Philippine Government about K-12 which is not really reliable, the unimproved technology, teachers’ lack of training and also
the low salary for the workforce of Department of Education. In an online forum of Dr. Lacanilao (2012) from University of the
Philipines Diliman. It also presented the critiques on K-12 program where the arguments from the perception of Filipino
scientist and non-scientist. Dr. Lacanilao did not agree to the implementation of K-12 though he believed that it is not the
answer to the problem of the Philippine Education System which the number of dropouts is included. And also, he mentioned
that the including of kinder level cannot enhance the learning abilities of the students. Since Dr. Lacanilao stressed out that,
those who agree to the K-12 implementation are not educators nor scientists. Now K-12 is now being implemented. There are
still issues that is raised, some of them were the lack of training of the teachers, and also the facilities. With these issues
Senator Antonio Trillanes made a move to stop the implementation of the K-12 saying that the Philippine Education System
as overly ambitious.
