On Friday 4th February 2011 I went to Redbridge Drama Centre with my class to attend a
Filming in difficult circumstances Workshop. We went to the Redbridge Drama Centre to
learn how to make our documentary flow and use continuity methods. We also learnt
different types of shots for example the over the shoulder shot. We also learnt filming with
different microphones and recording different sounds. We also learnt about wild sound,
wild sound is just recording normal sound for 1 minute.

On Friday we did 3 different activities…

The first activity, I was in a team of four filming a scene where 2 people are playing cards,
one person was going to be the winner and we had to show their emotions and tensions
during the card game. We also had to film different shots showing the two people thinking
for example shots of the cards, hands, and faces. The first activity was a silent film. After
we edited it and showed it to the other students and got feedback.

The second activity, I was in a team of two filming a silent scene which was set around a
door. Our scene was about someone going for a job interview and waiting a long while to be
seen. Also we showed in the scene the person becoming anxious during the wait. Then we
went back and edited it, we had 40 minute to film it and 20 minutes to edit it then we
showed it to the other group.
The third activity, I was in a team of two filming a clip about recycling in South Woodford
where we went out into the streets and interviewed local people for their thoughts about
what they think of recycling in South Woodford. We had a hard time because people didn’t
want to get interviewed but we managed to get two people in our video clip. The first
person who we asked was a chef from a local restaurant and the other a shopper. Then after
we edited the clip and showed it to the other group and they gave us feedback.

The thing I found most challenging was the third activity because we had to interview
people but most of the people didn’t have time or they were camera shy.

The thing I felt most confident with was filming because after the first activity on how to
make the clip flow Chris told us where we were going wrong and so I learnt how to make a
clip flow. For example, if you take a shot of a woman sitting down then in the next shot she
is standing up it doesn’t flow ‘when did the woman stand up’? Another thing I felt confident
about was activity two filming the different shots and making it flow.

Finally I learnt how to make a video clip flow and also how to interview people in the
streets. I also learnt how to use a rode microphone. I will use these skills I have learnt to
make my Rap documentary flow better and have good shots. These new skills will help me
interview people on the streets.
