Differences between OSPFv3 and OSPFv2

-OSPFv3 uses protocol 89

-OSPFv3 supports IPv4 and IPv6 adresses

-new LSA types for IPv6

-IP prefix no longer in the header but in the payload, making packets address family independent

-link instead of network terms because SPT calculations are per link not per subnet

-LSA flooding: LSAs have a flooding scope and there is a way to handle unknown LSA types

-less fields in the header

-router ID: used to identify neighbours

-neighbour authentication was removed and is now done using IPsec

-neighbour adjacencies (neighbours are not automatically detected)

-multiple instances (not all routers can be allowed to form adjacencies)

-depending on the packet, the destination address is:

■FF02::05: OSPFv3 AllSPFRouters

■ FF02::06: OSPFv3 AllDRouters designated router (DR)
