INTERNATIONAL WORLD AIDS DAY

Up until 2019, 46.206 people were living with HIV in Ecuador.

577 pregnant women and 10 newborns were diagnosed HIV-positive.

Young people, LGBTIQ+ individuals, and sex workers are the most affected.

Due to the pandemic, their earnings decreased, have been evicted, and face food insecurity.

Government measures in the face of the pandemic have not considered the needs of people living
with HIV and of those who have developed AIDS

On average, 4.000 new HIV cases are reported every year.

Quarantine measures restricted informal commerce and self-employed activities, where most
people living with HIV work.

During the direst months of the pandemic, sexual and reproductive health actions were stalled.

CARE urges the Ecuadorian Government to provide a comprehensive response to HIV, addressing
all sectors (health, education, employment, participation, protection, housing, etc.), and keeping
the human rights of people living with HIV in the center.
