Responsible Investment Portfolio Lead

Description
DAI seeks a highly organized and capable Responsible Investment Portfolio Lead with excellent
business problem solving and communication skills to lead and manage a variety of tasks for its USAID
Responsible Investment and Trade Activity (the Activity). The Activity aims to promote private sector
civilian ownership of the Myanmar economy by increasing the share held by responsible, accountable,
and transparent firms. It engages international and domestic private sector firms and civil society actors
across multiple sectors to facilitate investment, trade, and business partnerships, and to strengthen
regional economic integration, and improve business accountability, transparency, and competitiveness
in Myanmar.

Based in Yangon, the Responsible Investment Portfolio Lead will work within a team of approximately
twenty-eight professionals and will lead a variety of tasks including but not limited to the following:

 Lead all technical activities to increase international investment in local companies across a wide
range of sectors.
 Identify and evaluate potential investors and identify ways to facilitate investment into Myanmar
companies.
 Identify and review companies, especially those in the missing middle for their investment
potential.
 Engage with business advisory service providers to provide support in identifying and developing
investment strategies for local firms aligned with investors’ interests, developing pipelines of
potential firms, screen and validate opportunities, and help parties structure and negotiate
transactions.
 Leverage relationships with business advisory service providers to identify ways for local firms
to improve their access to supply chain opportunities with multinational corporations.
 Build a network of viable local firms seeking international investment and identify viable and
cost-effective ways to facilitate investment.
 Design technical support to increase capacity of business advisory service providers to meet
needs of local enterprises
 Develop grants or contracts to support business support firms’ expansion of services to extend
support to non-urban areas.
 Work within a team to oversee a team to manage day-to-day grant activities, ensuring adequate
technical support and success of the activities.
 Conduct activities with local corporations to promote research and investments that integrate
sustainable supply chains, distribution networks, and services.
 Oversee technical assistance related to SME transaction advisory support
 Collect lessons learned and best practices from grant facility support and apply knowledge to
new program designs.
 Conduct capacity building, training design, and institutional development as needed.
 Contribute to the Activity’s contract deliverables, including work plan and preparation of annual
and quarterly reports, as well as ad-hoc USAID requests.

Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in business administration, international finance, agribusiness, or a related
field; an advanced degree preferred.
 Minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting, business consulting, private equity,
investment, corporate finance, and international trade with some experience working on buy/sell
side transactions.
 Previous experience working with USAID, or other donor-funded projects on similar projects,
preferred.
 Demonstrated leadership and strong management capacity.
 Ability to work efficiently and deliver high-quality deliverables within the time allocated.
 Excellent interpersonal communication skills and public speaking ability.
 Excellent personal organizational and time management skills.
 English and Burmese fluency is required.
 Ability and interest to travel within Myanmar as required.
 Competent business analytical and research (primary and secondary research), and business
critical thinking skills.

Level of Effort, Location and Reporting


The level of effort is 260 days per year. The employment contract will be on a yearly basis, with possible
extensions until the close of the project. The Responsible Investment Portfolio Lead reports to the
Deputy Chief of Party. The position is based in Yangon, with travel to priority RITA states.
