 PRE-TASK 1

The problem below will give you an idea about the major process that you will be
using for the entire lesson. How many squares will you need to balance a circle?

Let suppose square=S, triangle=T, parallelogram=P, and circle=C.

GIVEN: TO FIND:

𝑪 = 𝟐𝑺 + 𝑻 (𝑫𝟏) 𝑷 = ___
𝑻 = 𝑺 + 𝑷 (𝑫𝟑) 𝑪 = ___ 𝑺

D2 D2

𝑪+𝑺 =𝑻+𝑷 𝑪+𝑺 =𝑻+𝑷𝑯

𝟐𝑺 + 𝑻 + 𝑺 = 𝑻 + 𝑷 𝑪+𝑺 =𝑺+𝑷+𝑷

𝟐𝑺 + 𝑺 = 𝑷 𝑪 = 𝟐𝑷
𝟑𝑺 = 𝑷

THEREFORE

𝑪 = 𝟐𝑷
𝑪 = 𝟐(𝟑𝑺)

𝑪 = 𝟔𝑺

To answer the question, in order to balance 1 circle on the scale one side must have 6 squares.
