● Before the speech, the football team seems to be in a dire place. Most likely because of
poor performance and teamwork in their game. After the speech, the team is losing but

because he makes it very clear he is talking to them and the situation they’re in.

that he has been in situations similar to this. He appeals to pathos by comparing the
basics of football and life. Saying things such as ‘it’s a game of inches’, and also
speaking of his past mistakes he has made in his life. He appeals to the audience’s logos
by using the earlier portions of the game saying that if they do not pick up their
● The speech is very effective in the film because the audience reacts strongly to the pathos
the speaker used. They do as he says and try to get back in the game.
● If I was in the audience’s shoes, I feel like the speech most definitely would have worked
or at least been effective on me. I would have felt more motivation to play and do better.
