Edward Taylor wrote poems about enemies within and without for the Puritans. The enemies within were Native Americans who had been displaced by settlers. Mary White Rowlandson was captured by Native Americans during a raid and held for six months before being released, during which time her daughter was killed. The enemies without referred to the witch trials that caused great conflict, as described in Cotton Mather's book claiming the trials removed a plague of evil from New England. The Salem witch trials resulted in many executions simply for being accused of witchcraft, as Puritans of the time strictly prohibited wrongdoing.

From a general perspective of what we could understand about this
topic (Some Colonial Poetry), this one talks a lot about biblical readings and how many poets wrote about it, and how they joined groups to discuss them. They say that the psalms had to be translated, and that it was a simple translation. In fact, Anne Bradstreet and Edward Taylor were some of the best poets of the colonial period who were the best of their time. Bradstreet could not develop very well as a poet because she was a WOMAN, but when she died a series of poems written by her appeared, and many of them were written for her husband and children. Taylor wrote poems for his future wife, as he had two marriages and had 14 children. Finally, Taylor showed much more interest in poetry than Bradstreet herself.
5) Enemies Within and Without.
In relation to this topic, it explains us that the faith that the Puritans had at that time was everything; Edward Taylor talks about enemies within and without. The enemies within are people who had been displaced by settlers, and who were Native Americans. It should be noted, that Mary White Rowlandson was caught to be murdered and her children, neighbors and relatives were taken with her; many of them were killed but Rowlandson was released and one of her sons was killed. After six years, Rowlandson wrote her story of her entire experience. On the other hand, the enemies without were noted for the great murders they caused due to many witch trials that they did. Something very notorious that Cotton Mather wrote in his book was "The New Englanders are a people of God settled in those, which were once the devil's territories". Mather also announces in his book that women were condemned in Salem because they represent a "terrible plague of evil angels”. To conclude with this topic, in the city of Salem, Massachusetts they murdered the vast majority of people just for the fact that they were doing witchcraft. In those days people were very religious and did not allow them to do wrong things.
