Turbocharger NAS and NAT Turbine Gas-Admission Casing and Nozzle Ring Cus196e (2003 07)
Reason for the modification Every now and then we are informed that the turbine gas·admission cas-
ing (501.001) shows deformations. This casing distortion caused in some
cases damages at nozzle ring and turbine wheel. The deformation (see
figure 1) may occur when the turbocharger is operated with extremely
high exhaust gas temperatures over a longer period. The modification
exclusively concerns turbochargens installed in four-stroke engines.
Improvement measures The material of the turbine gas-admission casing has been changed.
The new material has a higher heat resistance.

Reason for the modification In the course of our product development we developed a new, cast
nozzle ring (513.001) which has a better erosion resistance and higher
stability.
Hint Fitting the cast nozzle ring in connection with a deformed casing may
cause difficu lties in assembling. The casing has to be refinished at the
inside contact surface (B) until the axial distance (S) between the surfa-
ces (A) and (B) is 0 (see figu re 1).
