Finishing school is a goal that I plan to achieve, yet it will be the biggest goal I’ll be
completing during my lifetime. No one in my family has pursued an education beyond high
school, and now that I’m in college, it feels like all of my family members hopes and dreams are
compiled into a big weight on my shoulders. My family has full faith in me to graduate and
become successful, and not being able to do so would disappoint me, it would be like failing my
family.
Ideally, I would like to graduate from college and go to medical school. I want to
become a doctor who works within the sports and medicine field because I love the atmosphere
that sports bring, the games, athletes, and everything in between. I don’t see myself doing
anything else. The path I’ve chosen is certainly difficult and stressful, but I know I can get there.
I hope to join the small percentage of Hispanic and Latino students who graduate and
become doctors, and afterwards, become a role model for the other Latino and Hispanic students
who desire to grow and accomplish their dreams. I want to change the world by adding more
people of color in the medical field and become an advocate for students who desire to do the
same.
Growing up, I didn’t have anyone who looked like me or shared a similar background as
me that was in the field that I could look up to. I would love to change that and help other
students feel like anything is possible. If a Hispanic woman was able to get through the adversity

of being in a field where not much women have gone, I think that can be very powerful and
inspire others to feel more comfortable to go for bigger aspirations. If I could even inspire just
one person, I would be changing the world, even if it’s just a small change, because I believe that
small change could ripple off like water and create a bigger change.
