ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

QUESTION 1 (50%)

Traditional learning and teaching approaches will likely be dominated by technology,


innovation, and personalized learning mode. By 2030, the traditional brick and mortar
institutions will probably be available in the field of hard sciences such as medicine and
engineering which still require clinical and experimental practices as well as in the field of
soft sciences such as education and religious studies.

Figure 1 shows the 4-Quad Future University Models. It depicts four possible future
scenarios of Malaysian higher education. It should be noted that several deliberations and
workshops were carried out in designing the diverse university models appropriate for
Malaysia in the next few decades. They are:
1) Traditional brick and mortar university
2) Jukebox university
3) Uberised university
4) Nano/ Micro Certification

Table 1 shows the features of a 4-Quad future university model. Before we can adopt any
particular model at your institution, think about the following questions. (If you do not
belong to any institution, think about a hypothetical institution.)
1. Which scenarios are most desirable for your institution?

2. What would it take to get closer to the most desirable scenario?
[10 marks]

3. What are the pros and cons of the different scenarios in terms of quality, access, equity
and innovation to your institution?
[10 marks]

4. How would your institution react to each scenario?

5. What are the requirements that your institution needs to survive under each scenario?
[10 marks]

There are FIVE (5) questions to answer. Each question carries EIGHT (8) marks. Good
writing, good rephrasing, good paragraphing and correct referencing may earn additional
TWO (2) marks for each question. The whole assignment may take 12-15 pages of A4 size
paper.

Table 1 shows the features of a 4-Quad future university model. The models depicts four
possible future scenarios of Malaysian higher education. It should be noted that several
deliberations and workshops were carried out in designing the diverse university models
appropriate for Malaysia in the next few decades.

1. In what ways would you design teaching and learning activities for the students (e.g.
non-traditional students, lifelong learners, school leavers, etc.)? Provide examples of the
learning activities that you would design for these type of students.
