Instructional Activities

Absorb activities
These types of activities provide information and can include:
● Presentations
● Reading
● Field trips
For many learners, the best way to start learning a new computer tool or program is to
watch before trying it out yourself. Here are 2 sample videos. The Google meet one was
created by me on Screencastify. The Screencastify video is a basic one. Links to these
videos are provided:

Do activities
These types of activities transform the knowledge into information according to Horton.
They can include:
● Practice activities
● Discovery activities
● Games and simulations
The learners will practice using the features in Google Meet and Screencastify that were
highlighted in the absorb activity videos in preparation for the assessment. (Note: this is
difficult to show here, but if you watched the absorb videos, you will have an idea of
what the learners will be doing).

Connect activities
Horton points out that connect activities cannot be used in cases where the purpose is
to teach something new. These types of activities include:
● Questioning
● Stories by learners
● Job aides
● Research activities
● Original work
Learners will create their original work via a Screencastify recording since they will have
to use this independently in their own virtual classrooms. They might consider creating
something related to a topic that they teach. Here is a sample for one that I did for my
own class: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10pXUtIjJmzLgmCa-
