Instructional Problem

Our problem is that the school has been closed for the remainder of the academic year due to Covid-19 and we are forced to
have teaching and learning take place online. Until now, teachers have provided instruction in a brick and mortar setting. We
recognize that our teachers have had various levels of exposure to incorporating technology into their brick and mortar
classrooms. Very few have prior online teaching experience. As a result, their technological capabilities vary greatly.
Therefore, we need to provide our staff with appropriate technological training to transition from teaching in a brick and
mortar setting to an online environment in order to continue serving our students with the best educational experience
possible.

There are a multitude of resources on the internet which will benefit teachers and their students. Although we cannot
cover all of them, we want to provide the teachers with a basic ¨virtual toolbox.¨ The following resources will be our focus
and will include:

● Google Classroom

● Google Meet

● Screencastify

● Edpuzzle

● Flipgrid

The role of an alignment chart

It is apparent that the alignment chart is a critical tool in instructional design and it has many purposes. Not only does it keep
the designer focused, but it is straightforward for anyone else to look at. In addition, it is an important framework that lays the
foundation for learners to have appropriate activities tied to a learning objective in a variety of ways (absorb, do, connect).
Finally, the alignment chart also helps avoid the common ¨failures of instructional design¨ that Horton points out which are:

● Trying to teach too much

● failing to teach what people need
● omitting supporting objectives
● teaching what is easy to teach
● boring or frustrating the learners
● forcing people to learn in ways that are awkward or embarrassing.
