Orpheus

Setting: Theme:
Earth, Underworld Power of love; love is stronger than death itself.

Conflict: Lesson:
Eurydice dies and Orpheus goes to the Trust and Faith.

Characters and Brief Descriptions:

Orpheus- Son of Calliope and the husband of Eurydice.


Eurydice- Beloved wife of Orpheus who died because of a poisonous snake.
Calliope- Mother of Orpheus, one of the nine muses born out of Zeus and a Titaness named Mnemosyne.
Cerberus- the fierce three-headed dog who guarded the gate of the underworld.
Hades- King of the Underworld, who let Orpheus to get her wife.
Persephone- wife of Hades, Queen of the Underworld.

1. Are the setting and character realistic? How do these contribute to the effectiveness of conveying
lesson from the story?
-yes, it helps the reader to understand where did the action take place and who did it.

2. Was the theme of the story effectively portrayed by the course of events in the story? Explain.
-yes, when Eurydice died Orpheus did not hesitate to go to the underworld to get her, and when
Hades said that he should not look back.

3. Was the author’s purpose of writing the story achieved? How did setting, characterization, and
plot help in conveying the author’s purpose? Explain.
-yes, it would give the readers an idea on where and when the event is happening
and settings usually help with the way characters' backgrounds are made.

4. Over all, what can you say about the story? Is it a good instrument of conveying lesson among
readers? Why?
-The story is good, yes because, it states in the story that if you didn’t obey the rules something
bad will happen.
