PRAYER

GUIDE
WELCOME
TO

WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL

E very year, I have the privilege of leading ICGC churches

and God’s people in Ghana and across the world to
earnestly seek the face of God and trust Him to draw near
to us, as we draw near to Him. This period of consecration,
prayer and fasting has come to be known as “40 Days of
Power”. Every year’s experience is unique, but one thing has
been common to this solemn period each year. That is the level of
commitment I see from individuals, families, churches and
groups to devote time and effort to fully engage with the process.
It is heart-warming to hear of the many testimonies that
continually affirm the faithfulness of God and the surety of His
word.

From Thursday 25th June to Monday 3rd August 2020, we

will embark on this year’s spiritual journey as we fast and
pray for our nation, for global missions, for nations and
their presidents across the world, and also for our personal
needs, divine guidance and divine protection.

This Prayer Guide affords us the opportunity to pray together in

the same direction. Scripture affirms the benefit of this practice,
that there is power in praying with agreement with others.

Over the past few months the world has experienced very trying
times characterized by uncertainty and disruptions at various
levels. Within this period, I started a daily broadcast called Word
to Go to bring strength and encouragement from God’s word to
help us all weather the storms together. Over the period of 40
Days of Power, the prayer themes each day will be aligned with
my Word to Go message. It is my prayer that listening to God’s
word and praying along the same lines will bring us collective
strength for the times in which we live.

Each day’s experience will start at 5am with a call to worship. At

5:30am, I will bring you the Word to Go for the day. Corporate
prayers begin from right afterwards at 5:35am and continue for
the whole day. Various pastors will continually be supporting
you to pray online till the closing declaration from 5.55pm to
6.00pm.

When we fast, we ought to do it wisely and healthily to fully

reap the spiritual benefits it provides. You will find included
in this guide, some helpful tips on effective fasting.
Endeavour to read and apply them.

Join me on this exciting spiritual journey with God. Faithfully

commit to this period of consecration and as you do, you will
experience the Lord in a new and special way. May He hear and
answer our prayers as we fast and pray.

Shalom!

FASTING
FOR

The practice of regular fasting is a normal Christian behaviour taught by Jesus.

In Matthew 6:16–18, Jesus provided guidelines for fasting. Fasting was also
practiced by the early church as evidenced in Acts 13:2. It has been the regular
discipline of believers throughout church history.

Fasting has physical as well as spiritual benefits. It must be embarked on with

spiritual commitment and wisdom. Everything should be done to the glory of God.

Do's Of Fasting
1. Prepare your body for the fast; cut back on food portions and eat smaller
meals a few days prior to the fast.
2. Prevent constipation during and after the fast by eating fresh fruit and raw
vegetables, fruit or vegetable juices, oatmeal, etc.
3. Drink lots of water when fasting.
4. Seek medical advice before the fast if you have any existing health conditions.
5. You can fast in many different ways. For example, a Daniel fast is one in which
you consume only vegetables and water throughout. Pray and ask God what
He will give you faith for the duration of the fast.
6. Have a clear target as your prayer focus. Without a vision or clear goal, the
people perish. Write down your vision for the fast so you can run with it
(Habakkuk 2:2).
7. Take time to pray and read the word. This may seem obvious, but busyness
and distractions can keep you from daily devotions. Expect to hear God's
voice in the word, dreams, visions, and revelations. Daniel prepared himself
to receive revelation through fasting (Daniel 10:1–2).
8. Break your fast gradually. At this point you will need to exercise watchful self-
control. Break your fast on a meal that is light and easy to digest (i.e., broth, a
shredded apple, watermelon, or steamed vegetables).
9. Prepare for opposition. Satan tempted Jesus on the fast, and we must expect
the same. Discouragement may come but take your stand on the victory of
Christ.

Don'ts Of Fasting
1. Avoid high-fat and sugary foods before the fast.
2. Abstain from strong stimulants such as caffeinated and sugary drinks during
a fast, including the artificial sweeteners found in diet drinks.
3. It is important after a fast to control your cravings and avoid overeating and
nullifying the gains made during the fast.

I am excited that you are joining me on this fast. Commit to staying the
course and fasting from the beginning to the end. I believe that God's
glory will envelope our nation in a supernatural way as we wait
upon the Lord.

CONSECRATE A FAST
Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred
assembly; Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation,
Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes;
Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride
WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL from her dressing room.
(Joel 2:15-16 )
DAY 1 - JUNE 25

Morning Reflection (5am - 11am)

Joel 2:12-17
“Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with
weeping, and with mourning.” So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to
the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great
kindness; And He relents from doing harm. Who knows if He will turn and relent, And
leave a blessing behind Him— A grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your
God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the
people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and
nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her
dressing room. Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch
and the altar; Let them say, “Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage
to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the
peoples, 'Where is their God?' ”

Scripture For Reflection

Jonah 3:5-9
And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from
the greatest of them to the least of them. The word reached the king of Nineveh, and he
arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in
ashes. And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, “By the decree of
the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let
them not feed or drink water, but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let
them call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence
that is in his hands. Who knows? God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger,
so that we may not perish.”

Declaration
May the Lord be praised forever! I commit my life and the life of my family into His
hands. Therefore, no weapon formed against me and my family will prosper.
I thank the Lord for the blessing of consecration. I decree that as I start this season
of 40 Days of Prayer and fasting, I will draw closer to Him and He will draw closer
to me according to His world; I walk in His will for my life, in Jesus' name, Amen.

5
DEVOTED TO GOD
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is:
'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you
shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all
your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL This is the first commandment.”
(Mark 12:29-30 )
DAY 2 - JUNE 26

Morning Reflection (5am - 11am)

Mark 12:28-34
Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving
that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of
all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the
Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the
first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbour as
yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.” So the scribe said to
Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is
no other but He. And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with
all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbour as oneself, is more
than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” Now when Jesus saw that he
answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after
that no one dared question Him.

Scripture For Reflection

2 Timothy 2:19-22
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those
who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and
clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from
the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for
every good work. Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace
with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Declaration
Father in Heaven, you are the Lord of glory and power. I receive your grace to
cultivate childlike devotion to You. May I behold Your beauty, and dwell in Your
house all the days of my life. I place You first in all pursuits in life and declare

WE ARE NOT OF THE WORLD
I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but
that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of
the world, just as I am not of the world.
(John 17:15-16)
WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL

DAY 3 - JUNE 27

Morning Reflection (5am - 11am)

John 17: 6 – 19
“I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.
They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have
known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them
the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known
surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. “I pray for
them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are
Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I
am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father,
keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We
are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You
gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the
Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the
world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them Your word;
and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the
world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should
keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

Scripture for Reflection

1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the
Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing
away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Declaration
I declare today that I have the resurrection power of Christ at work in me; I am
empowered to live a life that is pleasing in the sight of the Lord. The eyes of my
understanding are opened to behold wondrous things in the word of God and I
live by the truth and revelation of God's word. I claim these blessing in Jesus'
name. Amen.

Scripture for Reflection
Ephesians 5:25-27
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself
for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL (Ephesians 3:20-21)

DAY 5 - JUNE 29

Morning Reflection (5am - 11am)

Ephesians 3:14-21
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from
whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you,

GOD IS FOR US
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who
can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but
delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also
freely give us all things?
WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL (Romans 8:31-32)

DAY 6 - JUNE 30

Morning Reflection (5am - 11am)

Romans 8:31-39
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who
did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him
also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God
who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also
risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution,
or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are
killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things
we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that
neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present
nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to
separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say,
'Destroy!' Then Israel shall dwell in safety, The fountain of Jacob alone, In a land of
grain and new wine; His heavens shall also drop dew. Happy are you, O Israel! Who
is like you, a people saved by the Lord, The shield of your help And the sword of
your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you,
And you shall tread down their high places.”

I declare an atmosphere of open heavens in this season in Jesus' name. God's
supply is abundant, it will never run dry. I receive an overflow of God's goodness

WE NEED GOD'S POWER
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me,
and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do
nothing.
(John 15:5)
WITH PASTOR MENSA OTABIL

DAY 7 - JULY 1

Morning Reflection (5am - 11am)

John 15:1-8
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does
not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may
bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to
you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides
in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the
branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can
do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered;
and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide
in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done
for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My
disciples.

Scripture For Reflection
2 Corinthians 1:8-10
For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us
in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we
despaired even of life. Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we
should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, who delivered us from
so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us,

Declaration
Today, I confess that all power and all glory belongs to God. I affirm my trust in the living God.
I am united with Him and nothing will separate us. I call upon Him and He answers me in
mercy and with mighty power. I depend on Him today and will rest in His love and protection
always. I prophesy that fruitfulness will abound in His church and the nations will be touched
with His power as His word is preached in Jesus' name.
