Planets of Our Solar System Project
Planets of Our Solar System Project
During our exploration of outer space, you will get the opportunity to explore the
characteristics of all of the different planets in our solar system! From rocky, to gaseous, to
being made of ice, all 8 planets in our solar system are unique!
Part 1: Research
To start this project we are going to be doing research from the books provided. You must
explore all 8 planets and for each you must find out five things:
- Composition (rocky, gaseous, icey)
- Distance and order away from the
sun
- Number of moons
- Interesting fact #1
- Interesting fact #2
For part two of this assignment, you will be building a model of our solar system! In partners
you will create a model that will have to include all 8 planets and the sun, optional will be
including the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. You will use a scale in order to show
accurate distance between the planets and the sun, which will have to be included somewhere
on your model. Finally, once your model is complete, you will add three flags to each of the
planets each of these three flags will contain a different fact:
1. Composition
2. Number of moons
3. Fun Fact!
For the final step, you are going to write a paragraph or two about a planet that you found
interesting and write about it in more detail. Use your research that you did in part 1 to guide
you to write your paragraph. Your paragraph should include a topic sentence, supporting
sentence and a concluding sentence.
