11. Why and how democracy viewed as blessing to development? With examples

Comment on the status of African democracy.

The word "Democracy" comes from Greek word "demos" which means "common
people" and "kratos" which means strength.The term "democracy" for first practised in ancient
Greek at Athens city state 508-507 BC, kind of democracy practised was direct and involved
men at mostly. Democracy has defined by many scholars in different perspective but means the
same thing. USA President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1861) defined democracy as "Democracy is
the government of the people, by the people, for the people" as he means democratic government
is government which elected by majority for majority benefits not to a small group of people as
other non Democratic government does.Also Joseph Schumpeter (1883-1950) defined as "the
method by which people elected representatives in competitive elections to carryout their will"
accordingtaccording to SchumpeterSchumpeter Democratic government is one which elected
and works for majority will not for minority.There two kind of democracy indirect and direct
democracy. Development and democracy have being working hand to hand and thus way
democracy viewed as blessing to development, African democracy as our point of view on
discussing how and why democracy is blessing to development as following:-

Democracy promote good governance and to best practices in development planning and
investimentinvestment. Most of African countries who practice democratic system enable them
to receive loans and grant from donner countries like America through structural
adjustimentadjustment programs (SAPs),which countributecontribute to the
developmentdevelopment of various projects like industries and electricity .also good
governance allow investors to invest without a country for example in TzTanzania for about 17
factories we're revived and created condesiveconducive environment that has attributed over
3000 , investors who are building factories all over the country (according to Dr Abbas ) in the
citizen article ,so this archivementachievement iiss caused by good governance which come off
as a result of democracy.

Promotes political stability; this is one among the contribution of democracy to development
since through rule of law and free and fair election a country is brought by peace and security,
there fore peace and security are great catalyst to allow investment to a certain country through
which citizens of intireentire nation are benefited through employment and increase in
government income through taxes that change living conditions individually and at national level
that's so called development for instance in Tanzania due to political stability foreign investment
increases example acacia gold mining in lake zone
 Democracy is more regitimatelegitimate in terms of providing public goods such as
education, health care, job training, environmental protection and the rule of law that allow
economic growth. Example in African Democratic counties like Tanzania the fifth government
under president Magufuli , they tend to initiate programs like that of cutting measures that saw
the reduced foreign trips to government officials this was done so as to ensure provision of free
education , implementation of water projects across the country, and increased budjetbudget for
higherhigher education loans. So those archivemntsachievements come as a resultresult of
implementation of good democracy in our country

Democracy is also blessing to development because democratic state is less prone to corruption
due to existence of transparency so through this different corruption issues are been criticised for
example in Tanzania the issue of RICHMOND and EPA has been criticised due to democratic
implementation ,also there is transparency in the use of different public money and resources that
are allocated to different developmental issues due to division of power among leaders from high
rank to local authorities so this help to use the resources well as they are allocated by
government to bring development to nation, so through this democracy brings development to
nation and seemed as a blessing to national development.

Democracy viewed blessings to development because it encourage responsiveness among of

state member on devopmentdevelopment issues, this is due to the presence of accountability,
equality of people and allowing citizen participation.Those issues everyone the state being
aware on his or her duties on development for example in Tanzania president Dr.John Pombe
Magufuli speed up the rate of development with different policies like "Tanzania ya viwanda" as
resembled as responsible to his state at large obscure state of initiatives like paying of taxes
participating in social activities like building of schools which lead to development Changes.But
also in Mauritius up to 2016 voicing the needs of citizen feeding back research as well as social
mobilization

Democracy is blessing to development because it allows majority participation in different

social,political and cultural activities that accelerates development and well being in all aspects
of life.African democracy has paved way to few nations to develop as allows majority citizen to
participate in different activities which lead them to develop.Majority participation has led them
to combat corruption,to provide and preserve human rights also has opened up the participation
of women in decision making in various levels of administration. Due to participation of
majority in all socio-political activities has mushrooming investment, elimination of dictatorial
leadership, also reduction of poverty. For example Tanzanian democracy has opened way for the
entrepreneurs "machinga" to conduct business without harsh treatment from Mgambo and other
polices.

Conclusively: Democracy has been a brand ambassador toward enhancing the direct
participation of the local community in political matters aimed to derive the national
development. Also the policy and constitutional implementations are enhanced through
democracy. Despite the fact that democracy has being blessing to development but it has a lot of
challenges to the African countries.There interferes of African democracy from biggest nations
like USA, United Kingdom, China and Russia.
