II. Reading Comprehension

Read the following story carefully and select correct

options to answer the questions that follow.
There lived a door-to-door vendor, who used to sell caps.
He travelled from one town to another, selling caps of
different sizes, types and styles. One day, after going
around a town for selling, he got tired in the afternoon
and sat under a tree to rest. He wanted to take a nap, but
he was worried that someone may steal his caps while
he was asleep. So, using a big cloth, he tied a large
bundle of all the caps and kept it under his head.
The vendor was unaware of a group of monkeys on the
tree, under which he slept. After he fell asleep, the
monkeys came down, tiptoed to his bundle, quietly took
out caps from the bundle and wore them like the vendor.
When the vendor woke up, he found the bundle loose and
many caps missing. He was shocked and could not
understand how and who stole the caps.
While thinking, he looked up and there he saw the troop
with his caps. He now knew where his caps were. He
realised that if the monkeys go away, so would go his
caps. He had to make the monkeys stay there and do
something quickly to get the caps back. He knew, that by
nature, monkeys are an inquisitive lot and also mimic. So
he thought of an idea. He started digging the ground as
if for finding something and then putting his hand in his
mouth, as if eating that what he had found after digging.
That made the monkeys curious and kept them from going.
Then he made some gestures at the monkeys which they
mimicked as per their nature. He made a few more
gestures to further involve them in mimicking. When he

31
CLASS : 2 OLYMPIAD POWER PACK
found that the mimicking game had caught up, he took
away the cap from his head and threw it on the ground.
Like all other previous actions, even this action of
throwing the cap on the ground was mimicked by all the
monkeys.
His trick had worked. He ran around and gathered all the
caps, tied a bundle again and went away for his
business.
