Physically the design of the A925 is similar to that of the A920. Size and shape are all but identical, and in terms of
weight and dimensions there’s hardly a millimetre or gram to separate the two. Even the black and silver colour
scheme is retained from the earlier model, although the configuration of the colours is rearranged.

This all means that our comments relating to the A920 on its heaviness, largeness and clunky feel are all
appropriate to the A925. And our comment that you’d better really want all the features on offer to justify carrying
the A920 applies here too.

The Motorola A925 runs on version 7 of Symbian’s operating system, and sports the UIQ interface. This puts it in
the same category not only as the A920 but also as Sony Ericsson's P800 and P900 (although obviously the two
Sony Ericsson phones don’t offer 3G services).

The A925 remains too large and heavy to be a main mobile phone unless the 3G services are truly compelling -
and we're not convinced that video calls and 3’s other services are there yet. Many people – particularly mobile
professionals -- are too used to having access to the full Internet to be content with a walled garden.

The Samsung Z105 (SGH-Z105) is the first Samsung

3G (UMTS) handset in Europe, and the first 3G
handset to be fully supported on the Vodafone 3G
network.
In many ways the Samsung Z105 looks like a
conventional Samsung clamshell, which is only slightly
larger than an average GSM clamshell phone. This
makes it substantially smaller, but about the same
weight, as the rival NEC E616 on the Hutchison 3
network. It supports both E-GSM 900/1800 MHz and
W-CDMA 2.1 GHz. On GSM networks it supports
GPRS (class 10) and WAP 2.0 as well as SMS and
MMS messaging and Vídeo MMS on 3G.

Display screens are perhaps the most rapidly

developing elements of mobile phones and in the
Samsung Z105 Samsung engineers make another
leap forward giving us 65,536 colours not in the main
internal screen but in the secondary external screen
featuring also 96x64 pixels resolution. The main
screen itself has a fantastic 2 inch, 262144 colours,
176x192 pixels TFT display.

Just like the Samsung V200 which pioneered this

design solution, the Samsung Z105 has a swivelling
camera that can rotate 180 degrees either facing
towards or away from the main display, allowing the
Samsung Z105 to be used as a videophone or
conventional camera phone and also providing a
convinient way of making self portraits. The camera
itself is rather average, having VGA 640x480
resolution. but this resolution is more than enough for
all advanced 3G services like Video messaging, Video
Calls and enhanced content supported by the
Samsung Z105.

On the Mobile Fun side the Samsung Z105 also

supports Java MIDP v2.0 allowing to download and
play Java Games as well as 40 tones polyphonic
ringtones. It also supports SAT, Streaming Video and
Video-on-Demand.

The only disappointment however that the Samsung

Z105 features neither infrared (IR) nor Bluetooth
having only RS232 and USB Interfaces. If the
absence of the IR connectivity is understandable as
this standard is gradually becoming obsolete, the
Bluetooth functionality could have been a very nice
addition to this otherwise extremely technologically
advanced model.

The Z1010 is Sony Ericsson's very first 3G handset.

Admittedly lagging behind other major manufacturers, it still
appears as if though Sony Ericsson has brought forth one of
the more interesting 3G handsets - at least if size and looks
count, which they normally do.

A clamshell design, the Z1010 is based on the design of the

now well-known Z600 model, also shared by the recently
introduced and EDGE-enabled Z500. It cannot in any way
be described as small, but compared to current offerings in
Motorola's A800 and A900 lines, as well as Nokia's 7600,
the Z1010 not only looks better but also offers a more
familiar paradigm. The platform is the same as that found in
other Sony Ericsson handsets, and there's no freaky keypad
- just a very comfortable and ergonomically sound one, on
par with that found in the Z600.
The screen is similarly good, which is a rather important
factor as increased use of data services and video
conferencing will lead to users spending more time with the
screen (and likely cause battery life to plummet, but we'll
hold off on that conclusion until after we've reviewed the
handset). We were able to see a demonstration of live video
conferencing at this year's CeBIT fair in Hannover, where
frame rates proved usable, despite slight delays.

To our pleasant surprise, we also discovered that Sony

Ericsson has added new features to the Z1010 since its
introduction, including an MP3 player and the boosting of its
internal memory to 32 MB - up from 16. For memory
expansion, the Z1010 boasts a Memory Stick Duo
expansion slot with a maximum limit of 128 MB. Other
features worthy of mentioning include integrated Bluetooth,
a VGA camera and support for WAP 2.0 and MMS. In
addition to WCDMA, the Z1010 also supports GSM
900/1800 MHz.

One of the lightest FOMA handset with decent battery life. Not one of the
