The Correlation Between political party and use of facial masks for protection from Covid-19
pandemic.
PURPOSE
With the global pandemic of Covid-19 increasing in positive cases, the
question still arises weather or not the facial masks help in the protection
from the virus. While the election is still in course, it is important to note
that Donald Trump’s party supporters agree that masks have no importance
when it comes to how the masks protects against the corona virus. Whilst
typically Democratic leaning individuals believe that the mask protect
themselves and others from Covid-19. In this study, a survey was sent to 34
random people to identify their political party and their opinion on
importance of the masks and how they go to protect themselves from
Covid-19. This study will show the correlation between the political party
and opinion on the facial masks' protection.
BACKGROUND
The pandemic has taken its effect in America in March 2020 and has
prevailed a long lockdown and restrictions as of November 2020. With the
countries worldwide state of panic the most prestigious doctors and
scientist has shown the public that the best protection is to wash your
hands, maintain 6 feet distance and wear a facial mask. The facial masks
have been in term of debate, despite the recommendation from the CDC
(Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, 2020). The president,
Donald Trump, has publicly denounced mask which has influenced the
Republican leaning public (Victor, Serviss, & Paybarah, 2020).
HYPOTHESIS
Null Hypothesis
The citizens of the United States will believe that the masks 100% are
effective despite political views or party.
Alternative Hypothesis
The citizens of the united states leaning more towards the republican party
will believe that the masks are ineffective in it’s entirety, while democratic
leaning individuals will believe that masks are 100% effective in protecting
from the corona virus

METHODOLOGY

Although, the data points were not completely 50%
Democrats and Republicans, based on the
comparison charts it is clear that the Democrats hold
the facial masks as more of a reliable protection over
the Republicans. The range in age, gender and their
closeness to tester are possible confounding
variables. The reason these are confounding
variables is because like people attract other like
people, so the tester is a Democrat so most of the
tested individuals were friends of tester.
RESULTS
The raw data collected from participants shows that those who were leaning more towards Democrats overall thought that the
facial mask were beneficial and effective in protecting themselves from the corona virus.
