100 US-11 Livingston, AL 35470 Dear Admissions Office, My name is Alexis Anthony and I am interested in attending the University of West Alabama for a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. I wish to continue my academic career with your institution due to the many entities that come with your program. I am intrigued by the devotion of the faculty members I have experienced thus far, the flexibility the program has to offer, and the skills I know I will acquire through my courses to align me with my future goals. Throughout my undergraduate program, I began to work in the Marketing Department at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. I found I have a passion and a talent for communications, public relations, and marketing. During my time there I learned a lot, and through these experiences I decided I wanted to make a career change from my current area of focus, psychology. As I am coming from a different background, I feel as if this gives me advantage. While studying psychology, I learned why people think and feel the way they do about certain things and can use this in your program. I started to become familiar with the graduate programs that would allow me to reach my end goals, and while doing this, I came across your institution. Throughout my time in my undergraduate program, I have gained countless skills and abilities that have set me apart from other applicants and prepared me for this step in my life. With working alongside the marketing staff for over three years, I have developed a knowledge for social media, advertising, website design, and publicity. Aside from the Marketing Department, I have worked in the Admissions Office for over three years as well. Here, I learned the need for communication, organization, and time management. Through the graciousness of my bosses, I was able to complete tasks that allotted me to develop these skill sets. These tasks included, but are not limited to, designing different advertisements and invitations for the public, designing clothing attire, working to rebuild the university’s website, aided in bringing new students to the university, and helped in running all university social media platforms. When not working, I dedicated it to my school work and my sorority. I maintained a grade point average of 3.64 throughout my entire undergraduate program, and I am on track to graduate from my university with cum laude credentials. I was also invited to join Psi Chi, an international honors society for psychology majors and Order of Omega, an international honors society for members who partake in a Greek lettered organization. Within my sorority, I have had the privilege to act as a leader and serve of the executive committee for all four years of my membership. While on the executive board, I first had the opportunity to act as Vice President of Community Relations. Here, I created all content for the chapter that was displayed to the public. From this, I learned skills of graphic design. I then served as Vice President of Organizational Development. In this position, I ran our judicial board and learned skills of organization and discipline. I then was able to end my time in my sorority with Presidency. In this position, I ran and delegated all tasks for the chapter. While serving as president, I learned skills of communication, listening, problem-solving, and management. In the future, I can see myself entering the job field to work within a university’s marketing and communications department or as a marketing manager. I am fully confident that the program you have to offer at your institution is the perfect fit for me and aligns with the goals I have set for myself. I want to thank you and I appreciate the time you have taken in learning about me and my interest in the University of West Alabama. I look forward to hearing from the admissions staff and possibly joining the family you have built! Sincerely, Alexis Anthony
