This is my father.

I have a (younger) brother.

3. Wǒ měiyou jiějiě, yě méiyou, mèimei.

I don't have (elder) sisters and (younger) sisters.


我沒有姐姐﹐也沒有妹妹。
 

4. Wǒ yǒu yí ge érzi.

I have a son.
我有一個兒子。

Notes:

 'yǒu' means 'to have'. 'méiyou' means 'do not have'.


 'yě' means 'also'. Pay attention to the position of 'yě' in a sentence.

Notes

 'ma' is a question marker. 'Nǐ yǒu mèimei ma?' means 'Do you have sister(s)?'
 A question can also be formed by repeating the verb and inserting 'méi' or 'bù'.
For example:

Nǐ yǒu mèimei ma?


Nǐ yǒu méiyou mèimei?
These two questions mean the same thing.

 'yí ge' means 'one'. 'ge' is a measure word which is used for persons and other
items following a numeral.

5. Tā yǒu méiyou gēge, jiějie, dìdi, mèimei?

Does he have (elder) br others, (elder) sisters, (younger) brothers and (younger)
sisters?
他有沒有哥哥﹑姐姐﹑弟弟﹑妹妹﹖
 

6. Tā yǒu yí ge dìdi, liǎng ge mèimei.

He has a (younger) brother, two (younger) sisters.


他有一個弟弟﹑兩個妹妹。
Tā méiyou gēge.
He doesn't have (elder) brothers.
他沒有哥哥。
Tā jiéhūn le, yǒu tàitai, yǒu érzi, méi yǒu nǚer.
He is married. He has a wife and a son. He doesn't have a daughter.
他結婚了。有太太﹐有兒子﹐沒有女兒。
 

7. Nǐ jiéhūn le méiyou?

Are you married?


你結婚了沒有﹖
 

8. Méiyou.

No.
沒有。

Notes:

 'Nǐ jiéhūn le méiyou?' and 'Nǐ jiéhūn le ma?' are the same questions in different
forms.
 Chinese is a discourse oriented language. There may be more than one clauses in
one long 'sentence'. You don't have to repeat the same subject in later clauses. For
example:

 Tā jiéhūn le, yǒu tàitai, yǒu ērzi, méi you nǚer.


(He is married, has a wife, has a son, doesn't have a daughter.)
