otherwise specified.
2. All materials shall be in accordance with
published specs and shall be approved by the
Engineer prior to deployment in Works.
3. All Civil and Installation Works shall be carried
out in accordance with Standard Specifications
and the relevant drawings. Deviations shall
require the approval of the Engineer.
4. All network designs shall be approved by OBC
prior to the construction
5. A non-degradable high visibility DETECTABLE
Warning Tape shall be installed along all Primary
Duct routes. The Warning Tape shall be colored
YELLOW and shall clearly identify the presence of
FIBRE OPTIC CABLES

6. Each duct shall be fitted with a pigmented,


stranded polypropylene or equivalent rot-proof
material draw cord of 5kN breaking load and
having a design life of not less than 20 years, the
ends of which shall be made fast within the
chambers to which the duct is terminated. Draw
ropes shall be secured to the duct plugs. Draw
cords shall not be knotted within ducts. Where a
joint is required it shall be a spliced joint.

7. The ducts are to be laid on a 75 mm bed of


compacted fine fill comprising of coarse sand (or
other fine backfill material) to take up surface
imperfections and provide a stone-free bed and at
such depth as to provide the minimum cover. In
the case of multiple ducts installed in the same
trench, the spaces between the ducts shall to be
filled with sand to prevent distortion of the ducts
when the trench is backfilled and compacted.

8. The space between the sides of the trench and the


ducts shall be approximately 50 mm and shall be
filled with sand . Further sand (or other fine
backfill) shall be added to cover the duct(s) with a
layer at least 150mm in depth measured from the
highest duct.

9. Primary Ducts shall be cleaned through the entire


length with an approved brush. Typically a
cylindrical brush, threaded onto a stranded steel
rope fitted with a swivel and eyelets arranged to
protect the duct bore. The brush will have a light
interference fit into the duct of about 1 mm.

10. The continuity of the primary duct will be to


pull a wooden mandrill through the section. The
mandrill will be not less than 70mm in diameter.

11. At least 3m of spare rope shall be provided at


each end of the Duct section and secured in the
access Chamber.
