Must have U.S. Citizenship. 10.221
Must be at least Age 19. 10.201
Medical Certificate Requirements:
• Original - Must hold or be approved for Medical Certificate.
• Renewal, ROG, New Endorsement - Must hold an unexpired Medical 10.301/10.302
Certificate or submit a Medical Certificate application.
Must be Drug Testing Compliant. 10.225/10.231
Mariner Fees must be paid. 10.219
Sea Service Requirements 46 CFR
Recency – 90 days in the past 3 years on vessels. Experience gained in the 11.201
engine department on vessels of appropriate tonnage may be creditable for up 11.410
to 90 days of the service requirements
MASTER LESS THAN 100 NEAR COASTAL 46 CFR
720 days of service in the deck department on Ocean, Near Coastal or 11.428
Great Lakes waters, OF WHICH, service on inland waters may
substitute for up to 360 days of the total required service.
NOTE: Any service will be credited as follows: 11.401
1. Service on GL will be credited day for day.
2. Service on vessels to which STCW applies (inland or NC) will be
credited
day for day.
Tonnage Calculations 46 CFR
100 GRT – 180 days (25%) of service on vessels of 51 GRT or above, 11.422
OR, 360 days of service on vessels of 34 GRT or above.
50 GRT – 180 days (25%) of service on vessels of 26 GRT or above, 11.422
OR, 360 days (50%) of service on vessels of 17 GRT or above.
25 GRT – 541days (75%) or more for endorsement on vessels 5 11.422
GRT or less OR,
180 days (25%) or more on vessels 6-25 GRT, OR
360 days (50%) or more on vessels 1-16 GRT
(If mariner does not meet the tonnage calculation for 50 GRT or
more he or she is eligible for 25 GRT)
Sail or Auxiliary Sail (Optional) 46 CFR
360 days on sail or auxiliary sail vessels, and 11.428
Complete CG Auxiliary Sail exam module or approved Auxiliary Sail
course

Assistance Towing (Optional) 46 CFR


Complete CG Assistance Towing exam module or approved Assistance 11.482
Towing course.
