Cells are the basic building blocks of living things.

Cells provide structure for the body, take in nutrients from food and carry out important functions.

Cells group together to form tissues which in turn group together to form organs, such as the heart and
brain.

Our cells contain a number of functional structures called organelles.

These organelles carry out tasks such as making proteins, processing chemicals and generating energy
for the cell.

The nucleus is based at the centre of the cell and is the ‘control room’ for the cell.

The genome is found within the nucleus.

Cells are the basic structures of all living organisms.

Mitosis is a process where a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells (cell division). Its major
purpose of mitosis is for growth and to replace worn out cells.

Mitosis is divided into five phases. It’s interphase when centrosome and chromosome are present.

It is prophase, chromosomes are pair up.

When the chromosomes are line up at equator, it is metaphase.

Sister chromatids are pulled apart in anaphase

And finally, cell pinches in the middle to form two identical daughter cells during telophase and
cytokinesis.

An important nutrient to human body – protein.

Protein is essential to building bones and body tissues, such as muscles, but protein does much more
than that.

It plays a part in metabolic reactions, immune response as it participates in every process of a cell.

Its goal is to provide a source of energy, assists in cellular repair, form blood cells, and more.

Protein, fats and carbohydrates are the three macronutrients of protein which provide calories, or
energy.
