ANALYSIS
The final soliloquy of the play named as Doctor Faustus takes place in the last hour of his deal
which is about to expire. As we all know at the start of the play Doctor Faustus makes a deal
with his own blood and bartered his own soul for the magical power with lucifer whose duration
is for 25 years. In this final hour of his life, he is now looking for help as devil tells him that his
deal is about to end.
He requests for some time. After giving up on the notion of obtaining more time, he then decides
that he will look up to god and acknowledges that one drop of Christ’s blood can save him.
Christ will forgive him for what he has done, after repenting on his deeds. He besides calling
upon Christ, he turns his attention towards devil and implores for salvation from hell because he
thinks that god is too angry with him and he won’t forgive him.
Faustus wishes that he be taken into the clouds of the sky and there he be compressed in heaven
where he will get purified, after which he will be able to go heaven, but while saying this, the
half an hour has already been passed and this shifts Faustus’ attention and makes him regret his
own-self for the Sin, he has committed. He spends his last hour lamenting his decision of
choosing divine life which in essence was limited and causes him an eternal or perennial
damnation of hell.
