When changes to ballast plates are made between weighings, the
plates may not be consistently manufactured locally resulting in
plates that weigh as much as three pounds off of the specification
weights. To correct this error, the following ballast plate proce-
dure will be used:

• loadings
The purpose of the variable ballast is to provide for maintaining the aircraft CG within the aft CG limit when
of less than 1,000 rounds of either live ammo or empty cases are carried.

• However, excess variable ballast loadings will result in aircraft CGs that exceed the forward CG limit. There-
fore, the variable ballast loading must be carefully selected consistent with the ammo loading and the resultant
forwardmost and aftmost CG conditions checked.

• The following recommended ballast loadings for various ammo loadings (either live, or empty cases) are
provided as a guide for selecting the correct variable ballast loading.

EXAMPLE
MIXED AMMO LOADING (NON-STANDARD)
NOTE

Standard combat mix ammunition loads IAW TO 11A13-14-7 are represented in preceding tables. Therefore,
standard mix load do not require the calculations described on this page.
Problem: The following non-standard combat mix is to be loaded on the A-10C aircraft. All rounds in this example were
manufactured by Aerojet. Obtain the total weight and moment.
HEI 200
APIT 400
TP 200
Total 800
Solution: Determine total weight by adding weights of each type of round from the respective tables.
Type Number Weight
HEI 200 298
APIT 400 652
TP 200 298
Total 800 1248
Determine total moment by multiplying weight times arm and divide by 1000. Weight is as calculated above. Obtain arm
from any of the preceding tables for the total number of rounds.

EXAMPLE
STORE LOADING CALCULATION
PROBLEM: Calculate the weight and moment data for typical weapons load configurations by adding all the components
using data from pylon station store loading tables:
NOTE

Values in store loading tables are for single stores. They do not reflect symmetrical loads.
EXAMPLE #1: TER with (2) LAU-131/A launchers, each with (7) M156 rockets with MK66 motors on pylon stations 4 and
8: Calculate the weight and moment on one station as follows:
MOMENT/1,000 WEIGHT, MOMENT/1,000
ITEM QTY WEIGHT, EACH EACH SUBTOTAL SUBTOTAL
TER 1 98 42.1 98 42.1
LAU-131/A Launcher 2 78 33.8 156 67.6
M156 Rocket with MK66 14 23 9.9 322 138.6
Station 4 total 576 248.3
For symmetrical configuration on Stations 4 and 8, double the values for one station as follows:
Station 4 and 8 total 1152 496.6
