For Bangladesh, what do you Think is the biggest obstacle in

achieving the environmental well-being targets of the sustainable

development goals (SDG 2030)?

I think Poverty is the biggest obstacle in achieving the environmental well-being targets of the
sustainable development goals (SDG 2030)

Goals like Affordable-Energy inversely related to Clean-Energy given the limited amount of
resources. Because Clean-Energy such as Solar or Nuclear Energy have higher LCOE. Whereas high
energy-cost will hinder innovation, economic and industrial growth.

So we are sticking with Coal-Energy which has a higher EROI and a very detrimental effect on
Environment. We are sacrificing our environment everyday in the name of development.

For example, In recent years steel industries in our country are thriving in the business sector, they are
producing tons of steel even importing them to other countries.

In the steel industries more than 30% raw material comes from recycled iron or steel from Ship-breaking
industries and 50% Ship-demolition of all over the world are performed here in Bangladesh.

We all know the adverse effect it holds on climate, life under water and mostly the occupational health
hazards. Seems like we are treating our country as a global junkyard.

Climate or Environmental well-being is a luxury we can't afford right now. But there should be an optimum
point between the environmental impact and value added by the development on that specific sector.
