Loose Piece Pattern

Why and How it works??
• In some cases, the casting may have small projections or cantilevered
portions.
• These projections make it difficult to remove the pattern from the mold.
• Therefore, these projections are made as single pieces.
• The piece loosely attached to the main part of the pattern and the mold is made
in the usual way.
• When the main pattern is removed from the mold, loose parts slide out and
remain behind in the mold.
• After removing the main body of the pattern, the individual parts are taken out
for the first laterally and then lifting them move through the space vacated by
the main pattern
• Because of the complexity of this pattern method, this pattern requires skilled
workers to do this method
• The benefit of this pattern is the ability to create more complex casting result
• Note that during ramming process, this loose piece could change position a bit
that can cause a product to not have simmiliar result
• During the removal of main piece, the loose pieces could also be lift causing
the mold to broken (sands rupture). This type of pattern is also expensive so
avoid if possible

• As we can see, this is the main pattern of the mold

• And this is the loose piece

• At this point, we can see that the pieces are loosely attached, this combined
pattern will create a single piece that is hard to make if using standard sand
mold
 • The pattern is placed inside the flask and filled with sands

• After compacting the sands, the main piece is pulled out from the mold. As we
can see in the video, because of the loose piece is loosely attached to the main
pice, it can easily slid out from it then left behind. This will not broke the mold
because of the obstruction by the pattern

• Then for the last and most tricky part is removing the loose piece.

By using this pattern, we can create various complex shape in one pattern
without worrying on the sand obstruction and pattern removal.
