Before Reading: (5-7 min.)
 Book Introduction:
I read the title. What might this book be about? What kind of things might we see in the book, by looking
at the picture on the cover? In Our Street, we will discover different types of houses people live in. We will
go on a walk with sister and brother through their neighborhood. I wonder what type of house they live in
(these adjectives/nouns are on each page of the book)? Let’s read and find out!

 Difficult Words/Vocabulary: short, tent

 Intentional Teaching Point: Pictures can be used as context clues for unfamiliar words.

During Reading: (5-10 min.) Listen in to students while they whisper read. Reinforce the teaching point, help
with decoding, check for understanding and provide specific feedback.

After Reading: (5-7 min.)

What kind of houses did the brother and sister see on their walk? How many different houses are there?
Let’s flip back through and count. Where might you find each type of house? Do these houses look like
your house?

Draw me a picture of your house or the houses on your street. What size are they? What do they look like?
