PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING 2

Philosophy of Teaching

For me, I believe that the best thing a teacher can do for their students is to make sure that in
the beginning, your classroom is a warm comfortable environment as possible. Especially in the
elementary school years, it is extremely important that a student wants to be in the classroom as it will
impact their ability to pay attention and be able to learn. I believe that it is important to show the
students that I am there for them and want to see them learn and succeed above everything else. That
is why my main goal as a teacher is to create a safe, encouraging, and positive environment.
My student philosophy style that I agree with the most is progressivism. I believe that with
this philosophy I will be able to help all students the most as it allows me to teach from both a
textbook perspective as well as giving the students a hands-on perspective. I think this is very
important because as we all know not all people learn the same way and this way I can reach students
who are auditory learners as well as students who need a more hands one approach to be able to retain
what I am trying to teach them.
My view on curriculum and testing is that while I firmly believe it is necessary to show that
students have a handle on the necessary skills and where they need help improving. I also think that it
places a lot of pressure on students, because of this my plan for assessing and testing students is to
make sure that they are aware that I am not doing it to judge or rank them but so I can help them and
teach them in the areas that they need the most help. I believe that it is extremely important that
students master the basics of Language Arts and Math as these are the skills that all future classes and
teaching will build on.
I believe that multiculturalism is extremely important for students to learn as it will teach them
the importance of individuality as well as showing them how we are all both different and the same as
each other. It will give a basis for students to learn about their classmates and celebrate their
differences. I want my classroom to be a place where students are comfortable asking questions and
learning about not only things like reading and math but also the different cultures of those around us
and the importance of respecting each other.
Above all, I want to teach because I believe that the best thing a person can do is help a child
learn and excel in the world. I want to be able to help students begin their education in a positive and
encouraging environment and help them have not just a joy of learning but also the tools they will
need to be successful all through their life. These are the reasons I want to teach.
