LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MASS LAB

Analysis Questions

6.

Procedure:

1. Record the mass of the graduated cylinder with 15ml vinegar.

2. Record the mass of the ask with 5g baking soda

3. Place the beaker and the graduate cylinder inside the a plastic bag. Make sure

to not spill any of the contents.

4. Weigh and write down the values of the mass of the beaker, graduated cylinder

and their contents in your data table.

5. Seal the plastic bag.

6. Without opening the plastic bag, slowly for the vinegar into the ask with baking

soda.

7. Record the mass of the contents of the plastic bag in the data table without

opening the plastic bag and breaking the seal of the plastic bag.

Reflection

One of the di culties that we faced during this lab was that the initial and

nal total mass had di erent values. It could be because the balloon was not

airtight. This led to gas escaping the ask which gave a di erent value of the total

mass. Another reason why we got di erent values of the total mass could also

because we forgot to tare the weighing machine when we were determining the

mass of the contents. As a group, we had great teamwork. We equally divided

parts, so everyone had something to do. The percentage error is 2.64%. If given

another opportunity to improve my design, I would make sure I tare the weighing

machine.
