I. Essential Ideas
According to thePLATE TECTONIC THEORY, the lithosphere is composed of many independent
massive slabs of solid rocks called plates. These plates are of two types: continental plates and oceanic
plates.

1. Changes constantly happen in the lithosphere. The theory of plate tectonics says that the Earth’s
crust is broken up into several landmasses. As time passed by, our environment also changes.
How can you help protect the environment with the changes that occur in it?
