Pedagogy
Online Activity The goal of the online activity is to teach the
students about fractions and mixed
numbers.

When beginning the lesson, I would start the

students off with a warm up activity. This
would consist of 5 fractions on the board
and the students would be asked to write
them in the form of a mixed number. After 5
minutes, we would discuss the answers.
Before moving onto the main content, I
would ask if anybody had any questions I
could help with.

After the warm up, we would proceed to the

web activity. When you click the link, it
brings you to a choice of 3 activities. The
activities are labeled Intro, Game, and Lab.
The students would complete all 3 parts of
the web activity in that order.

The intro activity focuses on dragging items

to the top and bottom of the screen in order
to show how that change impacts the
fraction. You can customize how many
pieces each picture has, clearly displaying
the part to the whole relationship. The game
portion of the activity features 10 levels to
play in order to review skills. I would assign
5 levels to be completed in class, and the
remaining 5 levels to be done as homework.
The final portion of the web activity is the lab
which allows students to demonstrate the
knowledge they have learned throughout the
lesson. During the lab section of the activity,
students are able to drag and drop mixed
numbers and their matching fractions.

I would conclude the lesson with a

classroom discussion. Everyone would turn
their microphones on and reflect on the
highlights and setbacks of the web activity.
