LESSON 7: SCHOOL AS LEARNING COMMUNITY

Activity

Model Analysis
Analyze the Hiatt-
Michael model on
the right side of this
box and answer the
analysis questions
below.

1. What did you understand about the Hiatt- Michael model as illustrated above?
- In the illustration, the model explains how to achieve a desirable outcome
with the participation of the school and its community. Administrators,
teachers, students and the community, must collaboratively share their
ideas, expectation and skills to achieve the common goal. Along the process,
one must also consider the organizational roles, resources, expectations and
the individual activities, characteristics, needs and values.

2. Do you think the organization, or the learning community is dynamic? How?

- It is indeed dynamic because it is ever changing in relation to the emerging
needs of the school and the community. It requires the active participation
of the community to achieve the goal which is to provide education to the
youths. There must be an open environment in terms of decision-making to
make sure that all aspects of the community were taken into consideration
before arriving to a decision that could benefit the whole system.

3. As an individual, how can you contribute to achieve the desired outcomes of the
learning community you belong?
- As a member of the community, we must be an active participant in building
the school community. We must partake on activities, discussions and
information sharing and relationship building. By simply attending to school
assemblies, it could be a great way of showing our support to the school’s
program and activities.
