If you use Tamiya's Spray-Work airbrush system, the new
regulator and pressure dial will add an extra touch of control
over the airflow. The built-in dial control knob allows the
flow of compressed air to be finely adjusted for differing
viscosities of paint and the moisture trap will greatly limit
the quantity of humidity that reaches the air hose. Tamiya's

The Focke-Wulf Fw190 is an eternally popular subject for scale modellers and the more
information that can be gathered prior to starting a project, the better. Of course there
are scores of books already in print on this aircraft, but as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for the
‘190, Kagero’s recently issued volume is an excellent starting point. Within its 264+
hard-backed pages we are treated to hundreds of period photos of Fw190s including
overall views plus some very ‘modeller-friendly’ close-ups of critical areas such as cockpit
interiors, engines and undercarriage, all of which will be genuinely helpful when adding
details, data decals and so on. As well as the marvellous photographic imagery, the
reader can also feast their eyes on eight pages of colour profile illustrations, topped off
with three sheets of scale plans in 1:48 and 1:32 that show airframe rivet detail. Excellent!
The Israeli Merkava main battle tanks are a unique and fascinating series of designs, making them a
hugely popular subject for armour modellers. In this new book by Michael Mass and Kristof Pulinckx
(published by AK Interactive from Spain), the Merkava Mk.1 and Mk.2 are focused on in detail:
more specifically, wrecked and abandoned examples in tank ‘boneyards’. The book is a 160 page
hard-backed edition in landscape format and it is packed from start to finish with extremely high
quality colour photographs – plus some very effective digital illustrations – showing the poor
old Merkavas in varying states of decay as their hulks are gradually cannibalised or left to rust
and peel in the Mediterranean heat. The book kicks off with something basic but very useful:
a photographic guide showing how to identify a Mk.1 and a Mk.2 Merkava! From then on, we
have pin-sharp photos of exteriors, interiors and close-ups of every conceivable structure of interest to
modellers, inspiring model projects and more. Very highly recommended.
In the Second World War, Hungary operated some very distinctive armoured fighting vehicles, which were
based on the Swedish L-60 and L-62 designs of the 1930s. These eventually evolved into the Nimród
self-propelled anti-aircraft tank, also serving as an anti-tank machine. As modelling subjects go, it has
a certain visual appeal and two kits in 1:35 have been produced: Hobbyboss in 2013 and Bronco
in 2018, with a more obscure 1:72 model released by Hunor Product. Peko Publishing’s new book
runs to 120+ hard-backed pages in landscape format and provides what must surely be the definitive
collection of images of the Nimród. The photographs are reproduced large on the page (just what modellers
want) and are remarkably clear, revealing many details that will stimulate the imaginations of modellers who
own the kits but hadn’t yet found the right references. With this book, you can confidently go ahead and
build your Nimród and add as much detail as your eyes and tweezers will allow!
This is another recent volume from AK Interactive and here, the subjects are the tanks
operated by the German army in the First World War, the main types being the A7V
Sturmpanzerwagen and captured British vehicles, known as Schwerer-Kampfwagen
(Beute) in German service. It has to be said that the photographs are simply
astonishing in their clarity, detail and sheer poignance. The full-page image on page
13 depicting the four-man crew of A7V Sturmpanzerwagen is hugely atmospheric
and is full of character and is worth the purchase price alone. The book goes on
to document the exploits of these men and machines – photographically and with
plans and colour illustrations – and it makes for a fascinating read. From a scale
modelling point of view, this production is a goldmine of invaluable references that will
greatly help anyone building a model to get the details and paint schemes just right.

The medium range bomber the Heinkel He-111 formed the backbone of the Luftwaffe bomber
squadrons during the early stages of the Second World War. It was twin-engined like many other
aircraft of the period, but was also an innovative aircraft in its use of all metal frames. Largely due
to its two Jumo 211 engines it was able to reach a maximum speed of 440 km / h and could carry
up to 2,000 kg of bombs in its internal loading bay. Easy to identify due to the distinctive fully
glazed nose and the wing and rudders profiles, the He-111 was extensively used during the Battle of
Britain in 1940. It’s key role was daytime and nighttime bombing raids on major cities and industrial
areas. During the conflict it was constantly improved and upgraded but had become obsolete by
the conclusion of the war.
The Hawker Hurricane has been the most widely used fighter by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of World
War II. The Hurricane was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 12-cylinders, liquid-cooled, with more than 1,000 HP that
could lead to a speed above 500 km/h. The eight 7.7 mm Browning machine guns, which equipped it, guaranteed a
good firepower. Although it was slower and more antiquated, for aerodynamic design, than the famous “colleague”
with whom it shared the operational engagement during the Battle of Britain, however, was more robust, cheaper
and easier to maintain and repair. It contributed significantly to the victory of the RAF during the Battle of Britain,
but during the war, it was gradually given the role of front-line fighter to the more modern Spitfire.
