Geographic Information System

Many-a-times geographical data and the data related to space and character has to be
analyzed for some techniques, processes, multiple technologies and methods. But there
was no way to analyze the data needed so here a new concept was introduced called GIS
(Geographic Information System). GIS is one of the concepts which analyze and capture
geographic and spacial data and operation and organize the result in the form of table and
charts.

GIS Application and Software’s

GIS applications and software’s are computer based tools used to store and edit special
and non-spacial data, analyze the information and share the visual results in the form of
maps. It is attached to various operations and applications related to engineering,
planning, management, telecommunication, transport/logistics, insurance, etc. This
application varies with the space, geographic analysis, area and visualizations. It provides
the capability to relate previously unrelated information through the use of location as the
key index variable. GIS has provided a new way for scientific inquires and studies to the
person interested in this field and we can get data very easily using this concept.
GIS mapping has the broad range of applications and software which involves the use of
combinations of digital maps and georeferenced data. The software’s are organized in
different categories.

8. uDig

Other open source GIS tools:

1. Capaware
2. Generic Mapping tolls
3. FalconView
4. Kalypso
5. TerraView
6. White box GAT

Geospatial tools:

GIS as a Service

Many suppliers are offering Internet based service to the clients known as GIS mapping
services instead of downloadable software or data. These can be free, funded by
advertisement or paid on a subscription. They are available in three areas:

 SaaS (Software as a Service)

o ArcGIS Online
o CartoDB
o Mapbox
 PaaS (Platform as a Service)
o ArcGIS Online
o Google Maps JavaScript
o Microsoft Bing
o US Census
 DaaS (Data as a Service)
o ArcGIS Online
o Apple Maps
o Google Maps
o Here Maps
o Open Street Map
o Microsoft Bing Maps

Geographic Analysis
Geographic Analysis is the important tool of GIS mapping software because it analyze
the geographic component of your data. It compute statistical summary and provides the
results in the form of charts and table from which engineers analyze the geographic
locations and take accurate decisions for the same.
