GENERAL RULES:
• ANSWER THIS EXAMINATION HONESTLY.
• TAKE A VIDEO WHILE ANSWERING ALL QUESTIONS. SHOW YOUR FACE.
• ANY FORM OF CHEATING IS PUNISHABLE BY A GRADE OF 5.00.
• TURN OFF ANY GADGETS.

PART I: ESSAY. Explain the following concept.

1. How do scientists define length in terms of meters? (5pts)
2. How do scientists define mass in terms of kilograms? (5pts)
3. How do scientists define time in terms of seconds? (5pts)
4. Derive 5 equations in UARM. (6pts)
5. Explain curvilinear motion. (4pts)

PART II. PROBLEM SOLVING. Show your solution and box your final answer.
1. Using LAW OF SINE and COSINE method, find the resultant of vectors A=11.51N
(17.3° North of West) and B=8.33N (South). (10pts)
2. A boat moves in a straight line. The velocity is defined by v=0.5t3+0.7t where t is in
second and x is in meter. Assume that when t=0,x=0. Determine its position (x) and
acceleration (a) when t = 4.2s. (10pts)
3. Starting from rest, the acceleration of particle, which is confined to move along a
straight line, is given by 𝑎 = 56𝑡 2 − 33𝑡 − 9, where x is in meters and t is in
seconds. Determine (a) the time required for the particle to reach a velocity of
61m/s from its initial condition at t=0, (b) the acceleration of the particle when
v=25m/s, and (c) the net displacement of the particle during the interval from t=1s
to t=4s. (20pts)
4. If a particle moving in a circular path of radius 8.1 m has a velocity function v =
3.5t2 (units: m/s), what is the magnitude of its total acceleration at t = 2.1s? (10pts)
5. A jet plane travels along a upward curvilinear path defined by the equation y =
0.5x2. At point A, the jet has a speed of 250 m/s, which is increasing at the rate of
1.6 m/s2. Find the magnitude of the plane’s acceleration when it is at point A.
y=0.5x2
