Alexander Technique Final

Please complete this quiz and return it to me by email before the end of our final meeting time.
(no need to re-write the questions.) During this written response time you will be in Breakout
Rooms and I will check in with you for one last “Use” check-in.

1. Alexander was a young actor born in Austrailia in the 1890’s who struggled with his
voice.

2. Primary control is the relationship of your head, neck, and back. Inhibition is a

conscious intervention to a reaction. Direction is the conscious thought to move a
certain way

3. Active rest is a way of taking time to reset the mind and body by scanning your body
for excess tension that you may be holding and being able to release it. Active rest
allows us to check in with our bodies in a deeper way, and we can benefit from this
because it is a quick way to quiet your body and your mind.

4. I have incorporated Alexander Technique in my life especially in school. Focusing on quieting

my body when I am sitting at my desk while doing work has been amazing for my back and
posture. I also like to check in during my practice sessions and do a standing active rest.

5. In the photo of the little boy walking on the beach, he is allowing his arms to swing freely as
he walks on the beach. His neck is long and his head up and back.

6. I think that due to the impact that active rest has had on my life (check in’s and so) I think I
will continue to keep this in my life. Active rest allows me to come away from whatever I am
doing and take a moment to check in and take a breath.

7. I did meet my original goal! I wanted to work on my posture as my main focus and from the
photos in my last journal, I think that has improved greatly!
